My little brother has just gone off to buy one of these MG ZR's.

1.8 160BHP in bright yellow.

Are they any good or is he going to have me round my mums fixing the thing all the time?

Uses Rovers 1.8 VVC lump - which has been around for at least 10 years in various forms in ever rover / MG you care to think of.

I quite like them (for some reason) - but not sure if I'd have one.

Seat Ibiza Cupra 20VT can be had for about the same cash.

Total rubbish... Spares for the K16 engines are as available now as they were 4 years ago! Lotus run the same engine in the S1/S2 Elise, GM ran it in the early VX200's not to mention nearly every Rover under 2000cc built since 2000 ran it as they phased out the Rover built T16 and Honda built B16/D20 units. The spares market is huge as the K Series is one of the best units in its class even still and Rover were just about to launch a new version of it that would have seen its range increase from 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 & 1.8 to include the 2.0 16v which produced 210ps in road going flavas! Shame the rug waas pulled out from under Rovers feet before the ZRX-210 went on sale cos I'd have ordered one without hesitation.
