Mikes car was playing up so i sorted it. Another successful fix from CHR.

Problem was poor running, random stalling etc.

I foolishly agreed to a price but as I am a man of my word as you all know I stuck to my £20 quote.

Renault had a go at rectifying the fault but as always renault needed an expert to resolve the issue. Mike was over a few weeks back and I popped th eair filter saw the state of things and told him to come back as I was going back down south wqith Doc that day.

So today he came back over and dropped it off.

Mk2 1.2 16V's are fly by wire throttle, that means no cable. It also means they can stick it in awkward places, in this case inside the inlet manifold.

Anyway, over view, grey 16V cover removed

inlet manifold removed, this is the plenum, which is also the rocker cover exterior, thats a pool of oil btw

[img:567:378:1759f21d41]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/mike%20clio%2002.jpg[/img:1759f21d41]

fitted to the throttle body is an inlet air temp sender, covered in oil, nice

the throttle body removed from the manifold, renault had never pushed the locking clip on the electrical connector fully home on this.

the back side

cleaned up, the oil was gungy and quite hard, its fly by wire so you can't move the throttle plate, well you can but I wouldn't unless you want to buy a new one

[img:567:378:1759f21d41]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/mike%20clio%2006.jpg[/img:1759f21d41]

the clean done the job nicely.

the 1.2 16V head is actually a nice wee head, I have seen a few, they look like they would respond very well to porting. Anyway had to clean the manifold to head face up and also make sure nothing fell into the engine.

this cover thingy was loose and rattled, someone had bodged it, Mike said renault replaced this section of loom so I assume it was renault that done it, anyway I sorted the problem

heres 1 of the tissues I used to soak up the oil in the plenum with, nice eh!

Mike has reported back and said the car seems to be sorted. I will let him update on it when he sees this thread.

The problem fundamentally was oil contamination. This is due to poor design on 2 accounts, inside the rocker cover and the breathers vent directly into the inlet plenum.

Excessive blowby is no doubt another issue, this is a running in problem though.

What doesn't surprise me is renault will refuse to do this sort of work. Instead they will just replace with new. Frankly due to the design this work will probably be best done annually.

Anyway another day another car fixed.

Can't thank you enough mate - all this time I would have thought renault had the best chance of fixing it but now I know thats clearly not the case.

Rip off merchants and like you say dont know their arse from their elbow.

Seems to run sweet as now - didnt cut out at all this afternoon and I drove if for about 40 miles through town and onj motorway etc - usually would have cut out or tried to at least 10 times.

Fingers crossed its fixed for good.

:D

Like I said mate, I'd sort you out. Everyone on here thats had work done have been happy and I want to keep my rep up!

Anyway, like I said maybe once a year or so. Hopefully if its once a year job it won't clog up as much and I should be able to get to it with a long probe.

You notice the glued up schraeder valve on the left hand side of the plenum on the top? I assume that was renault! Laughing

I forgot to do you an invoice as well mate, I can do you one if you want it.

Any other problems keep me in mind mate, like I said others can vouch and hopefully you seen how quick I work you feel happy enough to use me again.

thats how the fully qualified renault technicians fix things mate. I see crap like that all the time.

Worst thigg is I get people coming to me and asking me to fix things, stuff like that normally worse needs rectified and as a result costs money so they can feel robbed.

Anyway best guess at why they done that, its after the throttle plate, so they probably though tthe poor idle was maybe down to an air leak and it might be there so glue it shut.

Just be thankfull you never had to go down the route of replacing stuff out of warrenty, coil packs, throttle body, ECU and so on, it can get very expensive and its rarely what they replace at fault!
