u can get a cat 2 immob fitted for about £100
u need the certificate you see to send off to the insurers as proof of having the immob fitted

I assume its the key in the glovebox immobiliser?

Nope.

In the engine bay is the alarm itself (the speaker bit) and it has a key on it that you can turn to either on or off Laughing

right check the connections on it, its a renault after market 1 I had one on my 5 still got it laying around some where it goes in line with the ingition unit. try by passing it.

been looking at alarm systems on ebay ,whats the difference between the cat 1 and cat 2 alarms? i want the alarm for being able to insure the car the cheapest way possible rather than security to be honest .

can someone with the experience explain me how this works ?
can i buy and fit a cat 1 or cat 2 myself ? will the insurance company accept this or will they ask for a professional installation certificate from an authorised electrician ?

how much would garages charge to fit the alarm if i can find a second hand one ?

and apart from all this is there any tricky ways of having this car insured without having an alarm fitted Wink

simple answer is NO

cat 1 or cat 2 systems need to be fitted by authed dealers, so they sign the ceritficate which is your proof of having the system installed and working.

you can buy a 2nd hand system and fit it yourself but for the certificate, you need to get it checked over by a authed dealer - £60

my ph1 had a cat 2 fitted when i bought it but prev owner had lose the cert, so had to get it recertified at my local dealer.

opps, difference between cat 1 and cat 2 systems is the level of security they offer, cat 2 can be either an alarm or an immob, cat 1 is both.
having two cat 2 systems fitted does not equal a cat 1.

i should have bought a nova i tell yaa Mad

so its best to have the alarm fitted in the dealer,i have a funny feeling this will cost me more than a 100 quid Evil or Very Mad

I'm insured with norwich union direct, they asked if I had an immob but I didn't have to produce any certificates.

Could have fitted the fucker myself or just not had one for all they care.

never did it cause i swapped the insurance back on to the black rt the next day ,but wondering now how serious they are on these documents ??? Rolling Eyes

i will give them a call on monday and see what the outcome is

just been on the phone to good old tesco staff now ,they asked me for the immobiliser ,i told them the standard renault one is fitted on there ,she asked what one it was and said ,she needs the certificate for it ,i said i know nothing but will provide her the certificate as soon as i get it from renault Wanker! which will never happen
she said i will only be insured for third party and fire until i send them the certificate ,problem solved for free and hassle free .

no need for a cat 1 or 2 now ,cheers anyway docs Wink
