Possibly the most stupid question ever. However curiosity....

When an MOT tester tests your car and he looks at the year of the vehicle to determine the acceptable emissions level regarding the cat. Is this done purely on the vehicle year of registration? Or technically should it really be done by engine code? As in could a phase 1 renault 19 technically fail if it had a de-cat exhaust system, and had a later phase 2 or 3 engine? Confused

well if it is a p1 with a later engine just dont tell them.

and i know of someone who has put a p1 engine into a post 92 car and told them it is a pre 92 engine so they did the non cat test...

work it in ur favour
