Stunning innit! Shocked

Sounds like a bloody bag of shite! Admittedly it does go after about 5 or 6 minutes, but still! Rough as a badger's arse! Anyone else's tappets this bad on cold morning starts? Or just mine?

I'll be guessing just mine Rolling Eyes

mine was having ECU issues in the cold, last two days where the car has been frosted over the ECU light on the dash would just flash and the car not start, remove the ECU and warm it up with a hairdryer, put it back in the car and she would start lol

today i removed the ECU and removed the 'resist' from it, gave the pcb a good clean and touched up any dodgy looking solder joints, redid the thermal paste and put on some better 'resist'

that should help it out no end in the cold mornings

Mine hates the cold too.

If you're driving along from cold and drop the clutch the revs drop to 800 then slowly drop down and down to 200rpm then the engine stalls Rolling Eyes

Doh. Well I can't change the clearances on mine, cuz it's a 19 with the hydraulic tappets. I assume they're knackered, and there's a set of 16 brand new hydraulic followers on ebay for £69 which I've ben tempted to get for a while. That should shut 'em up!

Assuming I haven't got another problem that is Rolling Eyes

Yeah but Neal, I'm not as clever as you guys lol. It's like if I clean the ones I got and put 'em back in and they're still noisy, that will only get me to the situation of wondering if I'd cleaned 'em right or not. Whereas if I put new ones in and it's still noisy, then I KNOW they are not the problem. I'll have a word with me mate anyway. If we ever finish his prelude, I'm sure he'll give me a have to do 'em. But until then, I think sorting MY car is the last thing on his mind lol

mine doesn't go at all at the moment, haven't investigated as to why, just went to start it today and it just turned over, checked for spark, fuel pump primes etc so thats another job for Thursday, think its having a tantrum 'cos I've been driving the Volvo all week and didn't take her out over the weekend like I promised. lol

Yeah but schaks, on a summers day when the weather's okay, it's as smooth as a baby's ass like. It's just this time of year (2nd winter I've had the car) it's always been like this. Just gets tappy & generally noisy. But once it gets going it's okay like. Just a bit painful to listen to starting off!

This might be a bit too obvious, but maybe its like that becuase the oil takes longer to get up to temp?

Exactly the same here mate. When I drove to essex to stay with a mate at uni (327 mile drive from here), she was running as smooth as hell by the time I got there like. Didn't use the car for a week while I was up there, started it to come home and it was tappety, and then smooth as hell by the time I got home again.

So when it's used & is warm, it's fine like.

It's good to know somebody's sounds worse than mine tho Laughing But that still doesn't really mean mine is good! doh
