Hey guys, I've had probs with losing power so had someone look at it... and he tinkered...and in the end changed the management on the car (5gtt) and tinkered with the fueling... and driving home it felt better...quicker... BUT..

.....after this was done...all of a sudden I am getting popping and banging from the zorts when I let off the accellerator? This sounds great but not good? I dont know if this is right at all? and also I'm getting compressor serge?! even though I have a closed air box (original) which should not normally be heard! Its saying 17psi on the gauge... BUT..

......when I got home..i let the car cool right down...and now its a pig...its blowing out puffs of black smoke! (the turbo is a new T25 been on there 2 months) and it idling very badly coughing and eventually it cuts out....and the choke only helps once you 1st turn the engine on, then the revs drop right down even with the choke still on?! Then it just cuts out (coughing and smoking?!)

WTF can it be.....I'm in need of some help big time.. its not well at all.

cheers.

new management? Well management means its efi converted you need to get it mapped properly.

Managament is not a new ignition control moduile only a retard would refer to that as management.

sorry....its a kind of management....its not efi...its the original part.... but more accurately...its called an AEI unit. sorry for my wording.

I think I need some major miracle or its going in the classifieds, cheers.

I was more worried about the symtoms...and whats the cause of them.

thats the igniton module.

It really fecks me off when people call it the ECU or management, its not managment!

Compressor surge is not nice and you shouldn't be getting it.

Turn the boost down and see how it goes. Check it over for pressure loss.

It may be 17psi at the lobster but at the turbo outlet it may be 25 PSI! Due to losses.

Also sounds like the carb needs set up or theres pich in the carb clogging it.

Thanks Chris.. yes....I agree.....about the lobster and the real psi! even though the gauge is reading 17psi as well! that could easily be down to boost loss somewhere! even though that was tested...but I dont think he was a legend with these...although experienced.

I will try and have it done else where....if not...I'm fooked.

But yes.. it sounds just what u said.. ta.

I wish it had been checked at the turbo outlet when it was running! now its not running...without coughing and dying..its not as easy to check...as I cant even idle the car without it stalling.

take the lobster off, then start it and run, if it still acts up then its either fueling or ignition.

Theres no boost at idle, in fact it may smooth out as there will be more air there for the engine to pull in at idle.

Doign this will help with idle, you never knwo you might see something in there that shouldn't be! Bit of rag etc!

I drve it home 80 miles..and the worry was the popping and compressor serge...I believe this was the turbo running massive boost! Like u said...but only producing half that amount at engine...I will turn that down straight away.

I hope I havent damaged the turbo! what this cause black smoke at idle? and lumpy coughing until it stalls.

that will be unburnt fuel there matey. The smoke that is.

Thats why its popping, fuel going into the exhaust and igniting instead of in the cylinder.

why do u think the choke is not working when cold...its coming in at the very start for 2 seconds...and revving high with the choke on as it should, but the it suddenly drops...coughs and stalls....and I cant use the throttle bedal either to rev it up...it just coughs and dies still.

I know he replaced the original carb jets to try that with bigger ones...but they didnt help..so he put the original one back in... but there was also another jet in the side of the carb? and he changed that...but not sure if he put a bigger one in or not.

sounds like its over choking, pull it out when it fires hold the throttle then shoce the choke in (or up on the 5) see if it stays running then, if so to rich.

The one in the side id the idle jet matey.

I was just undoing the carb top (3 nuts) and I thought.... I have to give this one more try.... I manually tested the choke was free...and moving as it should... then I turned the boost back to standard on the incar controller (but I know this wasnt going to make much difference at idle) and then this time...I didnt use the choke....I just turned the key and put my foot right down on the accellerator to see if I could blow out any shit that was stuck in there! and it popped and then revved freely!!! fookin'ell mate! I was relieved! I let it run till hot then using the choke and the choked worked perfectly....then turned the choke off and it idles lovely....

.....I am wondering if this has totally cured it...or its going to re-occur again when its cold.. but I wouldnt think it could get bunged up again could it?

I will still look into the turbo and what its actaully producing at the turbo ! I think u were spot on there.. and if its over working its ass off.

lol.. yep I will leave it now! Smile I know I have one hose I need to replace (the turbo boost hose with boost sensor in) as I'm borrowing a friends.. and I'll order that monday! and I'm also borrowing an ignition module (that is actually off another 5GTT but a PH1! I have a PH2! so this may help bigtime with the right one on there as well! But we thought they were basically the same..as my one was found to be faulty.

cheers for helping out mate...if u hadnt have said a few ideas...I'd have sulked all day indoors like a big kid! lol. I'll let u know how it goes next time it gets cold again....lets hope its ok! : )
