Well, i have decided to join the 19 club.

Made a deal on the ph2 on ebay and i'm going to see if i can get it going tomorrow. If not i will go fetch the trailer and drag the thing home.

Needs tax and mot so first thing will be to get it ready for the test and see what problems crop up. (not much with a bit of luck, but it has been standing for a year so who knows)

Think i'll keep the clio for a while and store it away, it's a bit tired now and not worth me selling as it is, so i'll see if i get the time to do it up when the better weather comes along.

Well, thats the plan anyway, but were dealing with renaults here so anything could happen. Probably end up with 3 scrap cars on the drive lol

Cheers for the info on sorting it Addie

( Open the relay box under the bonnet, look for the fuel pump relay - spliced off the end of it will be a brown and blue wire (its 240v mains cable!) which goes to the key immob and when turned brakes the circuit. Just cut the cable and join the blue to the brown - hey presto! )

Hope it works.

If not, would the remote reciever for the locking fit from my clio?
Just incase theres an issue there and the signal isn't being sent properly.

it doesnt say what type of immobiliser it is that is stuck on.

its a '93 car so i dont think its the integrated plip / ECU type, and it's unlikely that the stupid key one that youre talking about would stump anyone, so maybe the car has an aftermarket immobiliser on it?

Remember i crashed it a while back so it's not a straight car.

I may be tempted to break it if all goes well with the 19

ok well if its the built in ECU one, you can get rid of it by taking along a phase 1 ECU with you.

or take your clio ECU along. Dont know the age of your clio but take the central locking plip unit along as well and swap them both over.

addie's method will only work if that's what the problem is... but like I said... I cant see anyone with half a brain being beaten by that crappy little mechanical key 'immobiliser'...

I swapped the blip key and reciever with one from a breakers on my car when it went wrong and it worked fine.
It's an M reg.

You say that, but Ben who I bought my chammy off had an Auto Electritian spend nearly 2 hours trying to get it running, eventually he did - but couldn't work out why.

The fault continued to exist through mine, Huw's and eventually Liams ownership until it died all together. Cutting the Immob out of the circuit - the problem hasn't reoccured since.

Maybe this guy didn't try, people have a tendancy to give up hope.

Mix - turn the ignition to '2' and see if you can hear the fuel pump prime, if you can its not the fix that I suggested. Remember that she'll be a bit clattery after having not run for a year! Maybe turn over by hand or on the starter first to check nothing has ceased.

Well, i'm back!

Ran out of time and didn't get it running, can't get the trailer so it looks like i'm gonna have to leave it. Sad

I fitted my reciever and the car locked and unlocked from my remote as it should.

I tried bridging the connections on the fuel pump but nothing and tested the continuity of the wires coming from the key in the glove box.

I persuaded my mate to lend me his ECU off his ph1 clio as he wasn't using it today, fitted it but exactly the same.

I did notice that when you turn the key the fuel pump relay is switching, which has led me to think it could be the fuel pump at fault and not the immobiliser.

Any ideas????

Does the fuel pump prime?

Does the car turn over with the starter?

Is there a spark (does the HT lead spark on the block?)

Did you take the sparkplugs out for a look see if they were knackared?

Its either the fuel pump relay then (just swap it out with the one in your clio) or again something to do with the factory fitted immob in the glovebox.

Check all the cables leading upto it and remove the immobliser totally from the circuit reconnecting the relay directly to the loom with connection blocks to ensure a good connection.

TBH trailer it home for £180 its not going to take much to get running.

if the relay is clicking then its nothing to do with any immobiliser!

pump will be siezed up and thumping may free it or theres a wiring issue.
