So, after many many months of driving around in gutless escorts and the like ive finally got my hands on my favourite car, a three door phase 2 19 16v in green.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150009311285&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Fsofocus%3Dbs%26sbrftog%3D1%26from%3DR10%26satitle%3D150009311285%2B%26sacat%3D-1%2526catref%253DC6%26bs%3DSearch%26fsop%3D2%2526fsoo%253D2%26coaction%3Dcompare%26copagenum%3D1%26coentrypage%3Dsearch%26fgtp%3D%26sargn%3D-1%2526saslc%253D3%26sadis%3D200%26fpos%3DAL3%2B5AP%26saprclo%3D%26saprchi%3D%26fvi%3D1

I'll get some of my own piccies up, er, when i get around to it!

Not exactly what you would call a strightfoward sale! I bid on the car and lost, then got an email from the seller saying that the guy who won lived in Ireland and couldnt afford to come over and pick the car up. I offered 500 which he accepted. So off i go to Leceister. After getting very very lost we finally arrive in what i can only call a South African style shanty town.

Big fecking foreign dude comes out, gives it all the usual bullshit and i ask for the keys and jump in the car and start her up...

Me..Wheres the stereo?
Matey..Er, my mate took it out i'll post it to you.
Me..Well as it was in the listing, i want it now.
Mate...Ok (goes to the back of his car and gets it)
Me. This is a tape player?
Matey..Said in the listing face off, not Cd player.
Me...Laugh at him
Matey..Says nothing

Start the car.

Me..So its gonna need an exhaust soon
Matey..Yeah i think so
Me Wheres the service history?
Matey..In the glove box
Me..This is a folder of receipts, wheres the service book?
Matey..No no, i class that at service history
Me..Well it not is it, service history means service history, these are receipts
Matey..Its the same thing
Me..Shake my head and cant be arsed to argue, the guy is clearly an idiot.

Drive down the road

Matey..Oh yeah, sometimes the rev counter doesnt't work, and that vibrating is a knackered engine mount
Me..You didnt mention that in the listing did you?
Matey..No (then comes out with some bullshit by which point i had given up listening to him.

Get back

Me..So, its going to need an exhaust, the drivers door lock doesnt always open, the rev counter doesnt always work, its needs an engine mount and you havent actually got the service history
Matey. Yeah (more bullshit)
Me..So you gonna take some money off it then
Matey..No, not even a fiver

I think about it long and hard, look around the car, bodywork is spotless, had a look under the bonnet, looks good. So then i just think fuck it. Its got no major problems, seems structurally sound, MOT for a year, Tax for 4 months and 92k on the clock and its exactly what ive been after, so i buy it. 500 quid still seems and feels like a good price.

Drive it home at between 80 and 90 for two solid hours, doesnt miss a beat. After driving around in my cars for ages i was actually astounded at how fast it was, so all in all, im pretty happy.

First job on the list..Locate the suspect that is causing the vibration. Only happens between 2 and 3000 RPM then dissapears. Any suggestions greatly appreciated? I must get this fixed ASAP!

Big thanks to Neal for offering to take a look and give me the thumbs up or down on return from his holiday.

Probably the usual rust i guess and its not 'taped up' someone has put a strip of thin blue plastic on it i would assume to stop the rust getting any worse, plus i wouldnt exactly class that as 'bodywork', would you?

Yeah i will soon but not now. Dont really want to spend loads this month now after shelling out 500 for a car. How much would you want for it just out of interest?

Cheers Chris, elegantly put as ever. In the listing he said it had FSH, and all he had was some receipts and MOT's, to back up the mileage, about 3 of which were for services. Maybe im wrong but when someone says they have full servive history i expect to see a stamped service book not some tatty old receipts.

BB, pm me your address and total you want for it.

<sigh> ok then Chris. Lets not turn this into some petty slanging match, although it appears that the direction you would like to take it! Theres a way to put your point accross without calling people muppets and tossers, maybe you should look into that.

A few receipts does not a FSH make but it does make a service history i.e. a history of servicing

Yeah i know what your saying, but there wasn't a full history of servicing as stated, hence my asking where the service book was. If he had said that theres a receipt for every service but hasnt got the book i wouldnt of had a problem with that, but he didnt.

I would still expect to see a service book unless told otherwise though, maybe thats just me.
