Well. Summer last year i managed to aquire a brand new head for my k7m lump form ebay for the proce of 15 quid. what did i do with it. Sod all. Its been sat on a shelf for a year, Well the head is tottaly brand new. Never been fitted. Has all new valves in and and a cam shaft. The current head on my car i rebuilt end of 2004. But since then a garage has done some dogy work on it and managed to drill into the oil gallery and it leaks oil and water from it do really need to look at getting the new head on. So here come the questions. Do i just swap over every thing i have from my current head and stick it on the new one stick it back together and see what happens?

not to do it the way you did.

I have no idea how anyone manages that, I do them a lot, never had a problem.

Sit the shaft and rockers on, bolt down 1 side slightly, then do the other bolts.

Most of the time I just do the end and centre bolts up then do the other 2.

I set the timing then put the rocker shaft on. Rather then the rocker shaft first. I just managaged to strip the threads on one of the bolts. If i remember correctly i tried to do them all a little at a time. Just with the timing set one of the valves was lifted open so the preasure from the valve string was trying to lift the shaft up. Thats why i think it stripped the threads. Does that make sense

well with the cam in the head 3 valves will be open when its fully tightened down.

Like I said I have never had a problem which why I was surprised when you had the problem last year or whenever it was

I installed the head first, set the timing and the cambelt up then installed the rocker shaft. Im guessing would be better to install the shaft first

no makes no difference, installing it means the cxam etc all has to be in anyway.

as we are on the subject of heads, is it really worth doing valve seals these days?
