I would just like to say hi as I am new to hear and only found out about this cool place after my ikkle K Reg 1.4RT has failed to start on numerous occasions now and has even cut out on me on my way to work.

Anyway, as I am a bit of a budding mechanic I realised it was the fuel pump.....or at least I think it is lol

Some times she whurs (is that a real word?) when I turn the ignition and starts, but other times she does not and I have to give the pump a clout and try it again to get it working.

This worked fine for a bit but now I think she has finally given up the ghost and wont start at all, and even if she did I would worry about driving her as she has cut out on a main road twice now and left me stranded on my way to and from work with no help :(

Anyway, I won a fuel pump on ebay and asked the guy if it would fit my car and even gave him the reg details.

He apparently checked hi computer at work and it came back as fine for my car so I went ahead and purchased it.

It finally arrives this morning and I set about removing my old pump and fitting the new one in its place.

This is where my problems really got going.

My old pump only had 1 pipe, 1 black plug (connected to the pump itself) and one white plug which was attached to a wire that runs next to the pump.

Now my new pump has 2 pipes, the white plug looks like it plugs into the actual pump now and that leaves no where for me to attach the black plug. :(

The annoying thing is that the new pump took me bloody ages to fit, well not the actual pump but the threaded ring that secures the pump

Is there anything I can do make my new pump fit?

My clio is only worth about £100 and Renault wanted a small fortune for a new pump and I cannot buy a patterened part from anywhere (GSF, Eurocarparts, lucas, PartCo etc)

Any help would be much appreciated as i'm not technically minded (im blonde you see) but am fine taking one bit out and putting another bit in its place :D

If you need me to post any pictures I will be more then happy....just ask

Thanks

sounds like you have a pump with an integral level sender and one without.

Sounds like you have just removed the level sender, the pump will be uinder the floor so the tank needs dropped to remove it.

Its the big round white thing under the rear seat that I removed.

Old part number is: 7700797385

New part number is: 7700802178

Not sure if they will help at all.

Does it sound like fuel pump or sender unit thats buggered Chris?

It was the sender unit under the seat that I was having to clout to get it to work again.

How much grief is dropping the fuel tank as it is almost full to the brim with petrol :(

Oh and why does the search not work? I entered 1.4 fuel pump and selected title only....yet it finds 21 pages of items and not a single one has 1.4 fuel pump in it :?

the pump will have been shocked into life by you hitting anywhere on the tank. What has happened is the pumps armature has worn so when it stops a certain way it won't work, clout it and it moves slightly then starts up and stays running

it'll be the pump.

How hard is it to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump?

Looks like I may have to scrap her as I doubt it is something I could do:(

4 13mm bolts, empty the tank out as with fuel in it its a nightmare.

probably take you an hour and a half to do it.

Ahh, that dont sound too bad, I may be able to rope my dad in to help his little girl

Is renault the only place I can really get one from?

I think they quoted my dad £80

Will a 2nd hand one from a scrappy be ok?

that pump won;t fit thats for a carb engine.

if the 2nd hand one works then yes it will fit.

all you need to do is use the new pump you got in the existing frame though.

Lol, I think we are confusing each other

This is what I thought was broken

This is what turned up today (which I won on ebay)

And you said "all you need to do is use the new pump you got in the existing frame though"

Are you referring to the 2nd pic as this is the new pump that I got :?

thats the level sender you have the pic of out of the car.

2nd pic is tyhe pump with the integral sender and pump.

Drop the tank on the car, take the pump out, take the pump off the new bracket frame you have then fit it into the one for your car.
