Right, Clio hasn't been driven since the clutch cable snapped for a 2nd time about 2 months ago, it was limped home on a temporary AA man repair job and has stood on my drive ever since.

It was running low on fuel, and as it was a non-runner I didn't see the logic in spending money to fill it up, however I did on the odd occassion start her up just to keep her 'loose' for want of a better term.

Anyway, went out to it one night in the week and it wouldn't start off the key. It cranked over okay, but battery fatigue soon kicked in and it would barely turn over at all.

After spending about a minute theorising why it wouldn't start, I guessed that it was the fact there was no fuel in the tank. So I stuck the battery on charge overnight last night and emptied a jerry can of petrol into it (about £7's worth) and just tried starting it..... nothing.

It still turns over fine, but it doesn't strike up, it doesn't even sound like it's trying to start!

My current theory is that there's no fuel getting to the engine, but given how most of my theories never transpire as reality I'll leave the theorising to you experts.

I've checked the HT leads and ignition to make sure it's all in good order and they are. Distributor cap and arm were changed only a few hundred miles ago.

Car hasn't moved since it was last fired up.

pull off the fuel line nearest the wing, this is the input. If theres no fuel, then it either blocked or not pumping(as in my case) but the rev counter is reading whilst its spinning over yes?

Yes the immobiliser goes off.

Don't know about the rev counter.

If the fuel pump is meant to click on the penultimate key position then no, it isn't.

Wont be the immobiliser because it deactivates.

How could the CAS have failed then? The car hasn't moved.... (not that it matters I guess)

How cheap are replacement sensor and is it an easy thing to replace?

Right, I'm about to go and have a look at the CAS. One thought I've had though is about the keyhole in the glovebox... is this for the immob?

Only reason I ask is I was buggering about with the key in it for some reason (think it's because I couldn't find my working immob fob) and thought I could manually deactivate it.

If the key slot isn't in the right position could that be responsible?

Right forget that last question, the immob can only be on or off and it's on and it deactivates, silly question.

Can't really see 'the now' so it will have to wait unless I can find a torch.....

FIXED! YAY!

It was the key slot not in the right position in the glovebox! Didn't think it had anything to do with the prob since the immobiliser was left on.

Changed position and heard the fuel pump priming and it struck up straight away!

Cheers for the advice chaps!

Can't beat a free fix!

the immob in the glovebox is the gay renault one, nothing to do with the other one.

Didn't realise I had two immobs, the one with the red LED looks like a standard fit thing given that it occupies a switch blank!

Video of my glee!
