 Oil loss in high performance engines

I've always known/assumed high performance engines to lose some oil, even the healthy lumps.

It's common knowledge that Valvers guzzle through it, but where/how do they actually lose it? Question

they use a lot less than some. YB's for example.

the bore sprays squirt oil under the piston and the bore, the oil control rings can't scrape it all away so it gets burnt instead.

Ah.

Only reason I ask is that I put the V6 through it's paces for the first time last night, and after slowing down got told to check my oil..... I was kinda hoping the natural consumption of oil by the engine could be the cause!
