just had a look, can't see the numbers unfortuantely, however have run the car revving etc etc, with pulley cover off and i can't see any oil coming from around the cam shaft seals, but i think it is coming from in there somewhere as the path of oil up the back side of the plastic covers leads up to here, maybe it could be the cam faces seal towards the back there..! only way to rule it out i think is to get em off AGAIN, I am picking up new Willy 2L 16V cam shaft seals tomorrow morning from renault, and a new rocker cover gasket, and will seal this bitch up again and see what happens.

Is blue hylomar good enough to seal these faces??

Well considering i used this already and i made sure it was a damn good job, super clean faces etc, and i'm almost sure this is whats failing, and not sure it would be wise to use it again, a friend mentioned rtv sealant from halfords, what is this, anyone know?? and how does it compare to hylomar?

better tell rolls royce (they invented it) and various engine builders including myself the world over to stop using it then mate!

RTV is room temp vulcanising sealant. Its not really suitable for this unless you want to wait 24hr's before letting it get oily to set.

You already said you don't know where its coming from so investigate further.

well the left cam is off, which seems to tbe the one leaking, however there is no way 25x42x7 will fit in there, the ones that came out originally were 25x40x7 and the new ones that went in were 25x40x7, so i think it is the fact that it may have been sitting crap on the tiny lip on the cam perhaps.

Renault reckoned these 25x42x7 we're right but hill power are syaing they are definately 25x40x7..

ignore ren/hillpower, what fits fits. Could be either matey.

Anyway make sure its all spotless before assembling. Also when you torque the bolts up go over them all again after 15 mins or so.

jonnyboy, how tight were the 42's going in, as looking from the top, the seal is forced out of shape and will not fit into the casting.

when your 40's were leaking, how loose were they as mine are certainly not loose.

I have also been told there were 2 castings for these, and i know for sure that it is a williams, as it came out of a willy, it has a F7R block, so i would have said this is the orginal head.

and also 40's came out!!

did oil leak past the seals when u revved it? if they were the wrong seals then it would have pissed out...and i mean like a small tap..very obvious....

and if 40s came out then its safe to assume 40s should go back in...which is new to me but there we are....

so u still havent found where the oil is coming from.....

put it together and rev the engine to see where oil is leaking from. its difficult to fix a leak when you dont know where it is.

no revving the engine with the cover off did not produce any oil pissing out of the seals,

I am just testing the mota now, and waiting to see if the leak re-occurs after refitting the cam

yeah just basically, took it off cleaned the faces up checked that the 42's wouldn't fit in the casting, cleaned up the cam oil seal, gave the oil seal a dam good talking to, resealed it, keeping the oil seal closer to the edge of the casting (away from the lip on the shaft), resealed it with instant rtv gasket, and prayed basically.
