Against all advise on the Cliosport website I have done an oil change using Castrol GTX Magnatec, Two weeks later and I still dont see what all the fuss about engines sounding like 'a bag of spanners' was for.

Whats the opinion on here regarding oils?

I run comma semi synth 5W30, 8quid for 5 litres, does the job just fine.

I use Castrol GTX High Mileage, and that seems to do the job well. Had my car in with Renault for a service last decembter, and they put some elf competition......somethin or other......oil in it and.......I've never heard anything like it. Car sounded like there was a gritter lorry parked in the engine bay flicking grit around everywhere!! Wasn't nice to drive, just felt like I was killing the car all the time.......but changed to GTX High Mileage and it's as smooth as a baby wrapped in silk Very Happy

......well, once it's warmed up anyway Wink

Well the Renault dealers I had mine in for a service with were like "oooh, magnatec is shit......blah blah" and eventually pursuaded me to use that elf stuff cuz I was like "hmmm.....renault mechanic......might know a bit more than me" but it just seemed SHIT when it was in the car. But I spoze they are Renault, they're gonna try and sell elf stuff aren't they, and so to do that, they say magnatec is shit. But I don't see anything wrong with it. I am actually more sure now that it IS good cuz I've tried something else other than it to compare to

Well like I said in t'other thread, i find the cliosport oil debate quite humourous. There's a lot of bullshit around about oil. Fair enough, you do get what you pay for to a certain extent, like anything else, but people desperately trying to get a certain type of ELF oil just because Renault say thats the one they need (Renault and ELF are linked for those who dont know) make me smile. Whats so special about this ELF oil? Do Renault make their engines out of a special metal that noone else uses and that can only be lubricated by this special ELF oil?

national tyres will change the filter and fill it up with semi synth for the princely sum of £20. I could probably only just buy the materials for that!
