other cars you like and why.

Subaru Imprezza

The best shape and possibly the best model, 22B 400 made 290bhp with just under 1300kg's.

This car sadly has fallen into the neds catagory, so every one you see is normally piloted by either an old man or more commonly a baseball cap wearing muppet.

Why is it good? The car itself is quite crap from a build quality/comfort point of view. Thin crappy panels, crap interior, not terribly reliable, many faults with the basic design.

However on the other hand there are very good bits about it. The brake lines an dfuel lines are run INSIDE the car, this points to the cars spoorting heritage, or the fact its a farmers runabout (you chose your opinion).

The car is quite modular, the rear diff cradle etc is easy to swap out, it doesn't take long, the front subframe again, very easy to swap and the engine is hooked over it. This can be either down to ease of factory assembly or the cars sporting pretensions, I leave that up to you.

The styling some would argue was stolen from renault, blue car with gold wheels, yes that will be a williams copy then.

There are a few fundamental design errors, top mount intercooler, bonnet scoop design, engine design etc but they are outweighed by the I suppose characters the best way to describe it.

The lancer is a better car but the Scoob in 3 door form and old shape is the looker, I even like the wagons.

The new version however is ugly and is to I dunno how to say it, but it regards itself to highly if that makes sense.

Sadly like the XR2, Nova's and Clio the neds have got their hands on them and ruined its image and to an extent its appeal.

The Lexus IS200

The 200 in my opinion is one of the best looking cars released in the last 10 years. The car is how a car should look. In black or graphite grey its a very pretty car, it just looks right. It also has to have those early style wheels, the later style are not as nice.

For a jumped up toyota its a wonderful looking beast. Sadly here we don't get the decent version, the Altezza, these come with turbochargers, over here we get the lethargic 2l NA engine.

Still its not a car for high speed antics its a car to be in to look good.

It was a reps toy but like the scoob and many others the prices have come down enough for neds to start getting them and pimpin them up, sometimes they look good more often than not they are ruined.

Heres a car that started a revolution in rear light design, not sa good one I hasten add. The only car lexus lights look good on are a lexus!

Mitsibishi Lancer Evo

Thats an Evo 6.

I prefer the older shapes, here is a 4 door saloon that is a better car than the subaru.

Its nice looking, goes well and is better built than the scooby. I have driven the lancer but never a scoob, but been a passenger in the scoob. The ecvo is far comfier and nicer to be in.

The evo has not be-fallen the same neddy fate the scoob has.

Nice car, again in black very nice, with white compo's.

Ford Fiesta mk2 XR2

Ahh the XR2. A small town runaround that got a nice pair of lungs and as a result became an instant hit. It was in its bigger brother's (the XR3's) shadow but the fiesat was the superior machine, it handled better and after th emk3 escort was phased out it looked far superior. It also got the XR3's engine, the XR3i was ahem blessed with KJet fuel injection which did give more power than the carb.

Ford should have made the mk2 fiesta available with the fuel injection, around 87 they swapped the carb to the weber TLDM with its vacuum engaged secondary and as a result lost power, although ford never disclosed that.

Most of them have been stolen, smashed, ringed or all of the above then burnt. The few that have survided are either cherished collectors items or nedded up with all manner of rather vile body kits.

Rosso red, black or grey is the colour to have.

hmmm - nice cars there, original early ford xr's look great as long as they are standard - real retro sruff with these black plastic spoilers/bodykits.

Spot on there Chris, the Subaru, IS200 and Evo 6 are definitely (in my opinion) some of the most desirable machines on the road.
I have been in a couple of Subarus and an IS200, they are two very different beasts.
The IS200 isnâ€™t the quickest machine on the road but is has a nice grunt to it and being from a luxury car manufacturer it has the more desirable look, feel and image associated with it.
The Subaru is quite a raw piece of kit, a road going track(22B)/rally car I suppose, lots of quality engineering but finished off with a dull plastic interior.
And as was pointed out, they come with a free baseball cap these days which is a minus.

To have both would be nice, it would provide good contrast and a broad driving experience. An older example of these can be had for around Â£5K with a fresher one setting you back Â£10K.

holden comadore because its a true mans saloon car big v8 rwd a proper car sure the latest and greatest from japan are fast and have 4wd but nothing beats the sound of a v8. I actually like the ford falcon as well, for the same reasons.

Impreza - Don't like them too much. The flat four sounds lovely but any i've driven i found too slow, well not slow as such but they feel slow. The fact that everyone seems to have one puts me right off and now that they're getting so cheap its just gonna get worse. BTW anyone driven a non turbo one? Pile of shite!

IS200 - A strange choice for you chrissy my boy. They do indeed look lovely and they haven't become overly popular which helps in the attractiveness stakes. If i had to have one it'd need a TT supra engine in it, that'd be fun

Lancer EVO - Yes please. I've driven a 2 (iirc) and a 6. The 2 was a quick blast and was ruined buy some godawful jap coilover suspension set to 'filling removal' so i can't comment on them. The 6 i had for a weekend a little while back and i have to say i enjoyed it. Supershort ratios are a joke tho so you're not going half as fast as you think. The 7/8 is lovely and better in every way or so i believe. Would i have one? No, not unless it was a 7/8 which are much more subtle the the older ones.

XR2 - I wouldn't, i couldn't, sorry.

Others cars on my favourites list:

Lotus Carlton - Always loved them for the looks and the obvious performance. It wasn't until the brother got his that i really appreciated them. The pulling power is immense and not till you've been in one will words make you understand. You have to admire a car the doesn't feel happy unless goin over 80mph and when its a big 4dr saloon all the better. One thing that turned me off it was the clutch, heavy and about 4 foot of travel. I had to sit too close to the wheel to reach the floor and when it was released my knee was in my chest...not a town car Wink

Cosworth - Either a sierra 4x4 or an escort. Feels more like driving than an evo or scoob ever will. They also feel so much faster thanks to the way the boost builds. Would i have one? Not a chance. I've had experience with 6 or 7 and none have been reliable be they standard or 495bhp. Still love them tho. /Me goes to dream of a mallard green escort

Elise - Fun and lots of it, does what it says on the tin but nothing else. I'm sure a westfield or similar is just as good but i haven't driven one so can't comment. Alan is building a hayabusa powered stryker tho so we'll soon see!

MG ZS - Ok so its outdated and a little cheaply finished but i guarantee no other car with the same power/weight/body would touch it on the road. An absolutely fantastic car. Its got the kind of suspension setup people hope for when they buy konis 'just right' The K series is a great engine despite its reputation and takes dogs abuse.

BMW E30 325 - Steer from the rear Wink

Dodgy reputation over there i believe but still gains respect here. I WILL have within the next 18 months

I would also like to nominate the Volkswagen Corrado as well. It just looks beefy and in VR6 form it has the power to match, although all specs are pretty performance orientated with the exception of the 2.0 8V.

Toyota Celica GT4

Now I have raced a couple when I had the cossie and they were no match, but they look nice, I have also span the turbo on one when I was poking around the bonnet of one! lol

this is a GT4 st185

They are quite nice looking cars and easily tuned, they have not fallen into the scoob catagory and they really are not very cheap yet.

The ford seirra cosworth is the best model, 2wd is the nicest. I have owned an RS500 whcih is regarded as the ultimate.

The car is an icon, sadly they have all been stolen, ringed, owned by gun runners, drug dealers and car theives.

They are immensly tuneable, the interiors crap and yes it is based on a 1.6l seirra but who cares, its not by any measure rapid but it was for its time. A great car and I find it a much better car to drive than the escort.
