not having much luck with my 19 16v, on the way home the temp gauge went near to the top and brought the light on.parked up,lifted the lid to find steam coming from the top of the water bottle and the water boiling.the fan wasnt working either. could this be a air lock, knackered water pump and fan or dare i say it but the dreaded head gasket? the water in the bottle is a rusty colour but no sludge. need some help plz lads. Crying or Very sad

fill it with water, let it cool down and go from there. There should be water flowing in to the bottle from the small top hose, if it isnt your water pump might have gone.

hi, tried that this morning and the water was feeding from the top pipe fine.went for a drive and temp shot up,went home and shut the car off and could hear a droning, lifted the lid and what looks like a motor at the bottom of the radiator was making a noise.it has a connector that runs off it and this runs to a small black box what looks like a relay switch mounted on the passengers wing, cud this be the problem and what does that motor do? Sad

i just have to say what a friendly site and thanks to all that have helped in the past Very Happy

that is the aux water pump, runs for 8 minutes or so after the engine is turned off, no problems there.

Check the thermostat is ok and whip the radiator out and flush it back and forth till the water comes through clear.

on yours, where the idle control valve is, thats the stat housing. or if its got a ph1 housing, just follow the top rad hose, to the head and the stat will be in there.

your best bet is just follow the top rad hose as that will be on the thermostat housing!
