Bl**dy thing keeps going! I've disconected the timer relay thing behind the left head light to stop it running the battery flat. Its a ten mile walk to work, ive got other cars to use, but they aren't 19 16 valvers!
Give us a clue, who has a wiring diagram, i've checked other sites (naughty me)! but they arnt as cleaver as you lot! HeHe...
awaiting with tools in hand! yes, "tools".
Cheers

common fault.

Its just sticking more than likely, if you can be bothered take it apart and clean it up, may need a dab of solder on the pins etc.

The way it works is when the ignition is turned off the relay closes and supplies the pump with power for 8 mins. But they usually play up.

Disconnecting it will not cause any damage, if the cooling system is well maintained and you don't just turn the engine off after ragging it at 7krpm for an hour, let it cool down first.

Yes, just relays can be a bit of a bother to get back together. My last valver had the wires cut to stop it constantly pumping after the lump was turned off...

is the relay the little black box bolted to the inside wing?

the one with a gay nut and bolt...so u cant undo it without forcing your hand up inside the arch lining, ripping it to shreds in the process (both arm and lining) u try to hold the nut still but then its just stuck cos its 10 yrs old and rusty so you end up just rippin the fecker off the bracket instead , so it will never go back on again?? is it that one?

aye thats the one.

Usually a philips self tape that holds it on.

Relays can be tricky others can be bad. In the old Saab my lights were dodgy, headlights going out at night etc, stripped th erelay and lots of dodgy joints, solder and perfect again.

ok took it apart today...god what a rip off...when u look at it its just a tiny circuit board and renault want £70odd for it...bastids...

anyway..it was green in one corner so some water has go to it and the copper has rotten...one of the resistors snapped...so i bridged the broken tracks..replaced the resistor...dowsed in WD40...and it works!!! hooray!!!

not as long as I would keep the boot in, I was doing over 120 for a good 10 miles quite often on the same trip. They did it for wee 1/2 blasts and maybe a mile.

With renewed hope, bonnet up, i removed the offending relay. Clutching it in my hot little hands i headed for the shed, switching on the soldering iron, i prised the relay cover off!.... At last , the iron's hot enough, deftly re-soldering each contact on the board i'm sure the chaps on the forum are right. Re-fit the cover on the relay and head for the car, nearly at a trot!.... Right, it's pluged in, it's now 5:23 and counting....5:24.......5:25.....
These bl**dy mins. are getting longer.....
F*uck,Sh*t,B**locks...After 15mins, relay was savagely removed from vehicle, after it hit the floor at Mac 3, it crumpled under the weight of 15 stone!!!!!!!!!
Well it didn't work... never will work , but i had to try!

Wonder why i didn't tape up the wires in the first place? Thanks for all your help chaps..Cheers
