PH1s don't tend to rust as easily as the PH2s do, they was built with higher quality metal which also helps with the handling, the ph1s seem to handle better than the ph2s.

Biggest problem with the Ph1 valver is the bonnet vent for two reasons.

A: If a ph1 does rust, the vent is very susceptible to it, check out JB's progress report on his ph1 and you will see how bad the vent can rust.

B: The design of the ph1 vent tends to let water into the engine bay very easily, when its pouring down you will prolly find your ph1 will start to misfire, the rain goes straight down the vent onto the top of the engine and down into the spark plug well.

there is a cure for that thou with a drain sheild of some kind, either make your own or places like Hill Power sell them

it simply attachs to the strut brace and directs the water away towards the back of the engine over the exhaust manifold

Its not a 16v without a vent though (its a 16s!)

I think the vent makes the valver - rainshield soon fixes the spark plug issue.

even if it was solid metal, unless it was sealed perfectly around its edge the water would still run off onto the cam cover and down into the plug wells wouldnt it

needs to be a seperate item, above the engine... the rain deflectors are ideal
