Hi guys...first post, so go easy on me Wink

I have a 1993 phase 1, 1.8 16v. Great fun little car but I have 2 problems. The car is standard except scorpion back box and an induction kit.

1) Sun roof leaks. Water is dripping in from around the electric sunroof switch. This is the second phase 1 I have owned and they have both had the same leak. Is this a common prob, and if so anybody got any tips on how to fix it.

2) MOT fail!! The car passed on all points except the emissions. It is reading way too high the CO (0.60% vol). I dont mind spending a bit to sort this out, but what could be causing a high CO reading.

3) can anyone suggest a good specialist in Yorkshrie that can tinker with my car. Obviously not a Renault dealer as they are rubbish...I am looking for a garage that know all about the older clio 16V Smile

Thanks in advance.

Any ideas?

Water leak is very very common on clios, it comes in through the aerial hole in the roof. Take the aerial off, put some silicone round it and the nut and do it back up tight.

Emissions... dodgy cat... dodgy lambda sensor?

1) show me one that doesn't or hasn't leaked! Can be anything from the seal to the aerial hole. The aerial is a common fault. It fills up the interior lght. Pop the light out then you will see the 8mm nut that secures the aerial to the roof. If its wet result. Take the nut off remove the aerial clean up the area on the roof then put silicone in the base of the aerial and bolt it back up. If you have no silicone then vaseline/grease does the job.

2) Do you have the other readings? 0.6% is only 0.1% above the pass limit! What rig did they use to test it? Probabaly a Sun rig how old was it? Was the oil temp as specified? Did it pass the fast idle test etc?

3) If you fancy a trip North then I'm in Glasgow.

My car was pretty close on the co. Put some petrol treatment through the tank blasted it round for nearly an hour before the test and it went through.

Cheers for the replies so far Smile

Here are the full test results...it failed the fast idle but only just on the second attempt?

Fast Idle Test:

Engine speed : 2500-2800 - 2653rmp Pass
CO: < 0.30 - 0.68% vol Fail
HC < 200 - 70 ppm vol Pass
Lambda 0.97-1.03 - 1.028 Pass

Second Fast Idle Test:

Engine speed : 2500-2800 - 2590rmp Pass
CO: < 0.30 - 0.40% vol Fail
HC < 200 - 47 ppm vol Pass
Lambda 0.97-1.03 - 1.018 Pass

Natural Idle Test:

Engine speed : 650-850 - 848rmp Pass
CO: < 0.50 - 0.35% vol Pass

Overall Result: FAILED

matey, set a time for a retest, before you arrive go for a very hard thrash down the motorway then take it in. the results are so close I'd say a good thrashing should drop it enough to pass. This is also semi backed up buy the fact the 2nd fast idle test was nearly passed.

It may not be the cat or lambda, the coolant temp sender may be the original and a bit dicky so it may be making it run a tad richer. So I'd stick a new one on.
