On my 16v, does the metal rear 'parcel' shelf provide any structural rigidity?

Or is it just there as the shelf?

Cheers

I'd imagine it does provide some rigidity but isn't needed. hatch is ok without but doesn't handle as well as the chammy

The parcel shelf and the rear screen are what stiffens up the chamades shell.

So yes to an extent.

The shells actually a good bit stiffer it would seem.

Going into my driveway the hatch would go on 3 wheels a bit, the chamade lifst the wheel a good 6 inches.

Windscreens and rear screens give a lot of strength to a shell. If you ever see a hatch without the rear screen it flops allover the place.
