im with valver, i dont declare mods, as far as both me and the insurance is concerned my mods were already on it, and i thought it was standard, play dumb, thats what i say.

That is a stupid attitude.

As always in legal matters, ignorance is no excuse.

If it came down to it after an accident, your insurance would be invalid.

wow, thats bloody lucky. It shows how easy it is for other drivers to get away with certain accidents without messing with their insurance.

only telling my experiences, i have been involved in about 6-7 accidents, and the last one was indirectly my fault.

anyhow why be penalised for actually making your car safer?

it depends on safer though.Remember insurance isnt really insuring you, its insuring other people for when you mess up. The insurance company would look at a rollcage and say, well, if hes got one of those in there he must be thinking about doing something more than just driving around....anything like bigger discs, any major engine mods, even a change in the ignition system - such as a push start button - can affect the insurance, and its up to the company involved to decide what is classed as an upgrade.

An example is when I was ringing around for insurance.I had that bigbore exhaust, and some companies would not insure me because of a 'clash of interests' they called it.Basically, as I had passplus and this chavvy exhaust they wouldnt insure me because its contradictory in their terms.

Im not against not declaring things like cams, or a Williams engine in a 19 etc., which are subtle and not easy to discover without looking in the right places, but don’t fool yourself; in the event that they did somehow find out after an accident (the assessors do it for a living, and they’re not stupid) your insurance would be invalid - whether you knew about the mods or not. In the eyes of the law, it’s your responsibility to find out.

Things like IKs, exhausts, decats, wheels, suspension, throttle bodies, brakes and so on, which can be spotted a mile off by anyone with half a brain, you’re asking for trouble. Insurance companies will use anything to wriggle out pf a payout, you're just making it easy for them.

i hearwhat you are saying, and yes, the obvious should be disclosed. but when my Orion1.6i was written off that had performance shocks on it, and they just came and looked at the damage, checked the tyre treads all round, and checked the speedo reading, and i think that may have been it.

the otheraccidents i have to my own car, i was just asked to get estimates, i could always just be lucky i spose.

however, if you disclose nothing and rag around like a twat, then you deserve to be found out! Very Happy

hope we are all nice good drivers in here...... lol

Yes, I spose thats true.I have a friend whos modded his clio on his mums insurance (him second driver) and basically according to the insurance certificate theres no mods atall. He is a daft pillock, as its not something that he can swap over - wheels you can swap over if you have luck on your side and some time before the crash investigators see the car, and also if its crashing into an inanimate object (like a tree) so the insurance is paying primarily for your car, noone elses property. Its risky but im sure do-able.Not advisable though!

All my mods are declared and I only get charged for the chip. The cars pre 92 so they don't care bout the decat. Neither do they care about the Back Box or the IK. Even with the superchip fully comp 3 points 1yrs ncb the ins is 500ish a year

and the same company quoted me 1300 for a 1.8 cavalier tpft ....wtf!?!?.....

lol.....it works.....kinda.

As some of you are aware I work for a Sony shop....got a load of resistors and stuff out the back. Managed to find one of a very similar rating to those sold on ebay and it does work to a fashion. Stuck it on the install chappies cavalier and it definitely runs alot richer. So we think it's just a case of getting the right resistance.

I think it should work.....but...........as the car heats up it runs progressively worse and worse. So it'll rune fine when warm but shit cold or good cold and shit warm so only kinda works. In other words don't bother it's gonna do more harm than good.
