Right done my CTS, as stated this is VERY easy. All your going to need is a wrench and a 21mm deep socket. Take the inlet pipe off and remove the pipe between the ICV and inlet manifold as it makes access much easier.

The CTS is as u can see the white one, connector is off.

Yours will be like mine and be a royal pain in the ass to get off, get some WD40 down there and be quick with a the replacement so u dont get coolant everywhere.

Manky old CTS

As for MPG, best ive seen on the trip was 56mpg driving like a grandad and before things went wrong I was getting about 420 miles to a tank.

So the CTS has fixed everything then??

I might change mine, i drove like a god yesterday and managed about 260 miles to 2/3rd of a tank i didnt put me foot down once and still that only works out at 35mpg.

Will get mine changed i think.

Things are looking better, had the average upto 43mpg on the way to work and with abit more spirited driving 37 on the way home.

went on a long run this weekend, it was doing 29mpg this morning but 35mpg on the way back (at 85mph). wonder whether it prefers cooler evening air or something. weird. oh, and changing the CTS didn't help one bit Sad

regarding CTS, you could test it. haynes gives the specified resistance when hot or cold for the sensor. So plug in a multimeter on the Ohms setting and look for the resistance across the sensor terminals. iirc it should give about 200 ohms at 20 degrees and more like 2000 ohms at 80 degrees. or the other way round Very Happy

Cant do any harm, but from reading your post over on RSC about only pulling 4000rpm in 5th at 100 your not going to see much improvement till you sort the box. I see 75 at 3500rpm in 5th.

lol can't do any harm but it won't do any good will it, his temp gauge is fine.

checking the resistance is pretty pointless, unless you have a scop and have its frame nice and small to catch any drops which ti will have.

really intresting thread this, picked up on the engine differences from ph1 and ph2, and as i have had a replaced engine about 3-4 years ago, i will have to check what type it is, unless you can tell from my pics chris?

You call £17 from BB cheap?!?

Go to your local motor factors and get the same one for about 7 or 8 quid mate. Don't use BB for anything!

Whereabouts in Wales are you?

This might not be the problem, but just check it anyway. I noticed on mine that it wasn't doing appropriate mpg, and could also smell petrol. I checked underneath and the rubber pipe at the back of the tank was leaking. Since I fixed that it's been better. Just a thought as most are over 10 years old!
