bb thats lined up fine, what are you on about?

it should be a relatively strong puffing, if its weak then there may be a collapsed baffle in the system which will cause a big loss in power.

yes it is possible to put them in the wrong order but the idle will be a bit stuttery if you do that.

from top left looking from the passenger side in an anti clockwise direction, 1,3,4,2

chances are the cooling system is in a bit of a bad way which will cost power and eventually kill the engine, many have died due to neglect of the cooling system.

On the motorway up to about 120 mph it will be on the 1st line, when you go above 120 it will increase slightly but never hot enough to kick the fan on.

round town it will go up to the 2nd line and the fan will kick in, but it shoudl be at least 5 mins between each time the fan comes in.

If you start it from cold and let it idle it should take at least 20 - 30 mins for the fan to kick in. When it kicks in it should drop back down to nearly the 1st line within about 20 seconds.

whys that bb?

unless the number of teeth on the belt is an exact multiple of the number of teeth on the cam pulley, then the mark will 'creep' relative to the pip on the pulley.

3rd line is classed as the 2nd line, the bottom c shaped bit isn't clased as anything apart from the bottom.

temp sender is the brown one on the side of the head.

check the sende ront he sie of the head, the wire might have broken, if not give it a wiggle and see if it works.

as for the engine impossible for me to say, it could be so many things.

no get the right one from a factors or even halfords, its at the back of the car on the drivers side, if you look in project Y's progress report you will see the bracket ad new filter.

its under the car on the drivers side, just in front of the rear wheelarch. You need to remove the whole bracket, then remove the filter from the bracket with it off the car.

theres no need to remove the bracket. undo the 10mm clamp bolt, then wiggle the filter out.

and yes petrol will come out, unplug the fuel pump relay or if its a ph2 unplug the fuse in the aux fuse box and crank it over, this will releive the pressure in the system.

if you dissconnect the battery it has already reset it.

any decent car will run perfect after a reset as there shouldn't be any adaption values to learn unless somethings wrong!

i think you need to let someone who knows what they are doing look at it in all honesty.
