Car seems to find it difficult finding 1st gear! It will eventually go, but it can take upto half a dozen times of coming off and back on the clutch before it goes in! It can be forced most of the time but not something I like to do because I doubt it is good for the 'box!

Oil level is fine, just wondering what might cause 1st gear to be a little more difficult to select than usual?

Is this when stationary or when slowing down? a dodgy engine mount can sometimes cause 1st to be troublesome

probably just wear and tear mate. Its not young and the oil is fresh, but check the level to be sure.

But it is a case where they all do that eventually.

I only select 1st when stopped, it won't go in to 1st on the move on any of the cars happily, unless they have a nice long journey its ok then.

i personally dont use the 1st gear unless its really necessary(starting up uphill etc) and try not to rev it up over 3000-3500 rpm .

checked my box oil the other day from the filler hole btw ,the level was just about right and the oil was very light green color ,so i suppose its quite new oil in there and does not need changing at all, does it????

No this is just when stationary, i.e. waiting to turn onto a main road.

Anyway if the 'box is on it's way out it shouldn't be too much of a pain as I should be getting round to an engine conversion pretty soon!

Read the initial enquiry Chris!

Anyway seems to be a little better now for whatever reason. That's the only think that pees me off about this car......nothing is ever consistent.
