well ok then, if you are replacing the rack, cut that pipe, the one thats part of the rack and cut it above the nut, then u can get a ring spanner or socket on it

but what happens if the second hand rack doesn't come with that pipe, il be stuffed, also the guy who told me i could have the rack for £25 has not replied to my emails since, so im probably stuffed for one now

the guy just email me back about the rack and asked if i could pay more postage and that he will not be able to get the thing off untill wednesday, its a pain not being able to get on with the job Confused

why are you dicking about with those pipes anyway?

only the feed and return pipes need to be touched.

you must have a funny 16V then, all the ones I done, you undo the threaded union feed pipe then undo the jubilee clipped return on the drivers side and then it comes out after you undo the mounting bolts obviously.

il have to have another look then, i cant undo the pipe thats on the passanger side, its starting to round off

the top one you have got out in the red circle the 17mm one is the only one you need to remove. thats the feed pipe.

feed the rack out the bottom of the subframe as well.

i havn't managed to remove that nut yet, i cant get the tip of the spanner in there, no room to fit the damn thing.

you got the 13mm pinch bolts off the bottom of the column yet?

fiddly innit.

you lifted the uj away fron the pinion on the rack? It can stick you see.

how the hell do you get the rack out once everything is loose, i can only move it a small amount.

getting the 13mm bolt of the bottom was the easy part, it only took me a few minutes, i unbolted it from the drivers side wheel arch.

I assume you have taken off the track rod ends amd the brackets?

with the pipes off it should pretty much fall on you.

the track rod ends are off the hub part but i have not removed them from the rack itself

they don;t need to be.

liek I asked earlier have you pulled the columns uj off the pinion? if not then the rack will not budge.
