Back December of 2005 a forum member called Puppy had a black 3 door executive. It was in Edinburgh. Amber and I went for a look to see what it was like and whether or not to drag it away.

It was an interesting day anyway. At first he wanted £150 or £100 I can't remember, I managed to talk him down to giving it to me for free and he towed it across Edinburgh for me! Top result and hes a good bloke.

The car was dragged to Soneji's who wasn't in and in the 3/4 days it was left there I never saw him or heard from him, so he either wasn't there or never noticed.

The car was a non runner due to having no nearside brake caliper and the wiring loom on the engine had been pulled off by a pillock.

The rear nearside arch was pretty corroded and there was a few other blemishes body wise, but from a few yards away it looks very good. There was also no centre caps and 1 alloy was missing.

The only stipulation Puppy gave was the leather had to go with him.

The car had not run for over a year or so on Puppys guess and he told me I would never get it running. Now we all know I like a challenge.

Here are pictures of the car after Puppy had left after dropping it at Soneji's.

2 days later I went back and fiitted a 1.4 caliper. The pads from the old one were in the boot, due to the extra width of the disc I had to file down the pads to get them to fit inside the 1.4 caliper.

I went back again with a radiator, seat, fuel and a few other bits to get the car started and drive it home.

After a couple of hours later the car was back in Glasgow. I had got the car running and it drove all the way to Glasgow (60 miles) without fault apart from the offside front indicator dropping out. Only issue was there was no rad fan on the car but I made sure the heater was working perfectly so in traffic the heater fan kept the thing cool.

Back at base and the engine bay looked like this

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20bay%2001.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

The hose on the bottom was someones attempt at a repair, I had the right pipe so just fitted it.

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20coolant%20hoses.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

The mileage, trip showing the mileage from the petrol station to Glasgow

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20dash%20display%2001.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

no trip comp

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20dash%20display%2002.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

had to fit fuses and relays to get the thing to run. The tax disc in the window ran out in 2003!

[img:425:567:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20int%2001.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

cleared the boot out

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20int%2002.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20int%2003.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20int%2004.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20int%2005.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

The car was a bit iffy at starting when I unscrewed the main earth braid bolt it all came clear, so I cleaned that up

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20main%20engine%20earth.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

There was a radio fitted and it came to life when I turned it on, its had the code feature removed

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20radio.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

airbag steering wheel, I have to say I quite like them

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20steering%20wheel.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

the fusebox lid was down due to the broken clips

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20fuse%20box%20fix%2001.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

new clips on the left, the single broken clip that was there on the right

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20fuse%20box%20fix%2002.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

sorted

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20fuse%20box%20fix%2003.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

The gearbox mount was split so the box would right and drop down whilst driving, so fitted a new mount

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20new%20gearbox%20mount.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

The nearside rad bracket was misisng so fitted a spare

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20ns%20rad%20bracket.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

the oil pressure gauge never worked, the reason, whoever had a go at the loom just broke the wire! So i repaired that and problem solved.

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20oil%20press%20sender%20fix.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

I then fitted a ph1 16V passenger seat

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20pass%20ph1%20seat.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

The car was running fine but I wanted it perfect so I whipped the TB off and cleaned it up

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20tb%20clean%2001.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

much better

[img:567:425:496839ba61]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20tb%20clean%2002.jpg[/img:496839ba61]

Now we were into 2006.

This picture shows the old split box mount I replaced

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/black%20exec%20orig%20box%20mount.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

BBracer sent me these parts at a great price

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20new%20stuff.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

sadly the plip was for the later type and couldn't work on my car.

This is the rear nearside arch, someone had taped it up to hide the horror

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20rear%20arch%20nasty.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

There was an old alarm fitted and the wiring was shocking so as usual I pulled it out as dodgy wiring is a real problem.

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20alarm%2001.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20alarm%2002.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

this switch was to turn the siren on and off

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20alram%2003.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20heater%20bulb.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

The ph2's have lots of really good corrosion creating parts, like these scuttle drains, if your car has them remove them! Be aware you might get left with a rusty hole that needs sorted. Its an angled tube with a flap on it and it collects all sorts of rubbish

[img:425:567:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20scuttle%20drain.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

Some of the dash lights never worked so I sorted them out

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20switch%20bulbs%2001.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

the famous hazard light switch, can't do the bulbs on those

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20switch%20bulbs%2002.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

nice

[img:567:425:59658fe6cd]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20switch%20bulbs%2003.jpg[/img:59658fe6cd]

Now its the 13th of January 2006.

I remove the rear door card side panels to have a look at the inner arches and the top of the sills

nearside first, the bad side

[img:425:567:f5a740c2d5]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20ns%20int%20arch%2001.jpg[/img:f5a740c2d5]

[img:567:425:f5a740c2d5]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20ns%20int%20arch%2002.jpg[/img:f5a740c2d5]

[img:425:567:f5a740c2d5]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20ns%20int%20arch%2003.jpg[/img:f5a740c2d5]

and the offside

[img:567:425:f5a740c2d5]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20os%20int%20arch%2001.jpg[/img:f5a740c2d5]

[img:425:567:f5a740c2d5]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20os%20int%20arch%2002.jpg[/img:f5a740c2d5]

I then done some window marking, you can still see these in the windows btw!

[img:567:425:f5a740c2d5]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20window%2001.jpg[/img:f5a740c2d5]

[img:567:425:f5a740c2d5]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20window%2002.jpg[/img:f5a740c2d5]

As you can see the offside was in far better condition but lets be honest its not to good. Ther sad truth is the very ph2 you are driving is probably just like this!

18th january

I decided to remove the side skirts to see how bad it was behind them.

Nearside first, lovely!

[img:567:425:d9d858c68c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20ns%20sill%2001.jpg[/img:d9d858c68c]

[img:425:567:d9d858c68c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20ns%20sill%2003.jpg[/img:d9d858c68c]

That would have PASSED an MOT becuase it was all hidden behind the side skirt.

So I put the sill back on and decided to give it a wash, can you believe that half an hour before I had that skirt off and revealed the horrors that lay in behind?

[img:567:425:d9d858c68c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20washed%2001.jpg[/img:d9d858c68c]

I removed the tape that was on there earlier.

[img:425:567:d9d858c68c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20washed%2003.jpg[/img:d9d858c68c]

24th January

The oil light decided to no longer light up and the oil level gauge also stopped working.

I checked the bulb first

[img:567:425:7343702cca]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20display%20oil%2001.jpg[/img:7343702cca]

took the display out, wehats that grey foam lump?

[img:567:425:7343702cca]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20display%20oil%2002.jpg[/img:7343702cca]

the trip comp plug, thats what it is

[img:567:425:7343702cca]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20display%20oil%2003.jpg[/img:7343702cca]

I knew then that it meant there was a broken wire - somewhere. That was the problem, the oil pressure gauge worked when the engine was running so it wasn't an issue and the car wasn't being used either.

10th March

Doc gave me a ph2 alloy and it needed a tyre.

I had a ph1 with a good sebring tyre, so had it swapped onto the rim

[img:567:378:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/ph2%20alloy%20swapped%20tyre.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

I now had a full set of ph2 alloys with the right size tyres. Turned out there was a slight rim leak from the new wheel, it went down flat over a week or so.

I was doing something or other and a wheel bolt snapped, not impressed, also note broken disc retaining screw as well

[img:567:378:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20front%20os%20brake%2001.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

I took the hub off and had a go at it, well sprayed some wd on it tried for 2 mins with the mole grips then got bored and left it

[img:567:378:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20front%20os%20brake%2002.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

Whilst doing this I noticed a rust hole on the inner arch - nice

[img:378:567:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20front%20os%20strut.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

There was always a faint smell of fuel on the tank and staining, I thought the leak was from the seam, but I recently found out when the tank was fitted to the red car the seam is perfect theres just a lot of pin hole leaks around the filler

[img:567:378:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20fuel%20tank.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

It was then time i decided, to remove the offside side skirt and see what horrors lay there

[img:567:378:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20os%20sill%2001.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

[img:567:378:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20os%20sill%2002.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

[img:567:378:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20os%20sill%2003.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

[img:378:567:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20os%20sill%2004.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

Not to clever looking is it!

Anyway I decided to have a look at the handbrake cable issue

[img:567:378:9faf5b31df]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20rear%20os%20brake.jpg[/img:9faf5b31df]

the inner cable had snapped so I had to get the old cable off and fit a new cable

21st March

I won leather on Ebay for £56 it was in Cumbernauld about 20 miles from me and where I used to live and some of my family still do.

The leather came with a parcel shelf and the runners. The guy however didnt know what he was doing.

2 were like this, I had to drill the bolts that were rounded off the runners

hmm lovely

[img:567:378:64fc92dccf]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20leather%2002.jpg[/img:64fc92dccf]

thats the stuff

[img:567:378:64fc92dccf]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20leather%2003.jpg[/img:64fc92dccf]

it was now an exec again!

I also fitted an airbox to the car instead of the cone that was on it, see the wire under the airbox, white and red? Thats what I used to fix the dodgy oil light.

the car looked good despite its rust issues

8th April

Doc came up in his cabby and he brought me centre caps from Wicked neo

We took the cars to the industrial estate for a few pics

The car drove great, looked great and was all round great apart from the rusty sills.

So the plan was to weld them up, paint and sell it.

Turns out the car was sold before I touched the welder.

I got £180 for it.

I got it for free, paid £7 for a handbrake cable and £56 for the leather. I got the caps and tyre swap for free and evertything else I had already.

So I made £117. Which wasn't bad for a car with no MOT, TAX or V5.

It was sold to a 'local' and I used to see it out and about all the time, they drove it daily with no mot, tax etc on it! Crazy mofos.

29th of June

I bought the car back a few days earlier for £100, why? I have no idea, well I do, I knew the car was good and could sell easily if I sorted it and got the car tested and taxed. If not then it had leather etc that would sell.

Anyway they had chucked a load of filler in all over the place, what a mess it was

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2001.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

So I had to clean the areas to be welded and to see the full extent of the rot

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2002.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2003.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2004.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2005.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

So I set about welding the sills up, not pretty but was strong enough to resist the 2lb hammer!

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2006.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

I then cut the rear arch to weld in a piece that came with the car when I first got it

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2007.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

of course me beig a pillock cut the section that was to go in to small

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2008.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

cut the rot out of the lower lip

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2009.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

tacked it in place

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2010.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

slot is jacking point, again ugly but strong

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20weld%2011.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

It was about now I noticed a bit on the boot floor flange and I tugged it and the boot floor flange pulled off.

I then decided its a nice car but not that nice, I would spend a long time chasing rot around the car and wouldn't make my money back.

So I decided to strip it, front end pulled off about an hour after I made the descision

[img:567:378:2c829c2af6]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20front%20end%20stripped.jpg[/img:2c829c2af6]

no going back now.

besides I was still £17 up on it, which to be fair doesn't cover anything like the amount of time I spent on the thing.

The leather seats were sold to Doc for £50.

He was also having the engine and box for £150 but that fell through due to his personal difficulties.

A14LNC was then having the engine and box for his chammy but pulled out.

So I put the engine into the red 3 door, Project Y.

So the engine, subframe, door cards and so on all went to the red car.

Some parts have been sold on etc.

But so far I am only about £70 quid and a 16V sleeper up. Which considering this is my main source of income is pretty poor. Some bits occasionally get sold on though.

16th August

I needed the shell gone as its in the way and an eyesore. No one was interested in the 1.4 C type from the red car so i just fitted that to the exec

[img:567:378:587175e4a1]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%201.4%2001.jpg[/img:587175e4a1]

I cut a section out of the car to weld into the blue ph1 16V hatch which has badly corrded in this area. As you can see the car was also filled with scrap metal

[img:567:378:587175e4a1]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Black%20exec/exec%20cut%20out%2001.jpg[/img:587175e4a1]

There was at least £100's worth of scrap in weight there.

I had planned to take it to the scrapman myself and get the full whack but needed the car gone.

So Amber rang round to see what the best offer would be. £30 but would have to wait until monday this was yesterday (thursday). I needed it gone asap, somewhere else said today but would only give me a £10.

They came refused to give me money depsite agreeing there was at least 100 quids worth of scrap there and they pre-agreed a tenner for it! They said you can leave it or we can free uplift it.

I needed it gone so free uplift it was.

To say I wasn't impressed is an understatement but its now gone.

Overall its been an interesting few months with the car. But am I sad to see it go? Not at all.
