today i started on painting the engine that my first project is begin built from after i had it chemcally cleaned last week, i decided to paint it with some dark blue harmmerite paint as on the tin it looks quite close to the 449 blue the 19's came in so good choice i thought as my next car will more than likely be blue now

right some pics 1st is from the day one after i got it, just the bare block and sump of doc

[img:640:480:6256598bf5]http://img467.imageshack.us/img467/6027/05040616273vb.jpg[/img:6256598bf5]

2nd aint the best but as you can see it has been cleaned but it still had the paint on it the sump came back quite silver and after a quick brush with the wire brush were ready for painting

[img:640:480:6256598bf5]http://img459.imageshack.us/img459/3063/06040620479uj.jpg[/img:6256598bf5]

this is after the 1st coat paint as you can still see the black through the paint

[img:640:480:6256598bf5]http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/8826/wmue008ou.jpg[/img:6256598bf5]

and this is the 2nd coat its gone on quite well dark blue as it said impressed Very Happy

[img:640:480:6256598bf5]http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/1493/jxme007mv.jpg[/img:6256598bf5]

now just got to clean all the faces up and clean and tidy up the inside of the block before i start buying the internals and start getting my beast off the ground Very Happy

bigends
all core plugs

right today i started back on my project pulling out the remaining parts i needed from my spare engine to go in ths one, got 3 on the conrods out easily the the forth was nt havinh none of it so abit of anger taken out on that one lol but apart from it went sweet Very Happy all looks in wicked condition so hopefully i dont need new con rods or a new crank, the only thing i need to get is a pulley for the end of the crank because it looks slighty battered and chipped (not by me!!Laughing)

[img:640:480:1265b4891b]http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/4427/02060613212wv.jpg[/img:1265b4891b]

[img:640:480:1265b4891b]http://img285.imageshack.us/img285/6162/02060614410dw.jpg[/img:1265b4891b]

what bolts should i use for these and the con rods??

[img:640:480:1265b4891b]http://img437.imageshack.us/img437/2185/02060614439as.jpg[/img:1265b4891b]

these were in the last 2 pistons gearbox end wtf are they??

[img:640:480:1265b4891b]http://img285.imageshack.us/img285/8936/02060613229mz.jpg[/img:1265b4891b]

and what are these? i got as far as they lube the top of the con rod inside the piston? i think,Laughing i cant find my book of lies so im flying totally blind on what they do.. should i re-new them or will a good blast of air do?

[img:640:480:1265b4891b]http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/1857/02060614444mx.jpg[/img:1265b4891b]

also managed to get this bit of pipe out the block (goes behind water pump) left it soaking in a load of WD-40 a month ago so wasnt as bad as i thought it would be (considering it wouldnt even budge back then) so thats going to get cleaned out of the crap and get painted the same dark blue as the rest of the block and get it fitted,

[img:640:480:1265b4891b]http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/7879/02060614454xr.jpg[/img:1265b4891b]

still have things to get as im waiting to get quite alot of the parts and then do as much as i can in one big go rather than in dribs and drabs Very Happy

the 2 crescent shaped things are thrust washers, they sit either side of crank journal #2, must have fallen down into the pistons when you lifted the crank out. Get new ones.

use new conrod bolts.

The other things are the under piston oil spray jets, just clean em out and put em back.

i been told that they pop if the block freezes to stop it craking?is that right in that case how should i make sure they will stay in? no paint i take it

thats what they're for! unless you have bulletproof paint or something as strong, cant see the harm in painting them.......

lol how silly.

core plugs are so the casting sand core thus core plug, can drain out of the block after its cast.

just tap em in, some sealant like vblue hylomar etc is fine but dry is fine as well. painting over them after insertion ensures they will be ok on the outside from corrosion.

they can pop if it freezes and may save the block but thats not their design purpose.

Some small core plugs block drille doilways.
