I got my housemate a job at the place I work last October and because he couldn’t drive, ive been giving him a lift into work every day for the last 9 months. He gives me £10 a week for his share of the petrol money (which by calculation of distance/price etc is pretty much spot on). Fine.

Now, he has recently passed his driving test and will shortly be coming into possession of a car. Am I reasonable to ask/expect to be driven in every day by him for £10 a week for the next 9 months (i.e. the same deal in reverse)? Would he be reasonable to refuse?

He's the type of guy who will refuse if he can.

You should ask, give and take Neal, You got him the job, you to him to work, no reason he should refuse TBH.

He will want to go straight to a 1 week on, 1 week off system, I am pretty sure of that.

why should he refuse unless he is not happy with your existance Laughing

what sort of housemates are you ???? not so close i believe ??
thats very feckin cheeky of you to ask for a tenner a week to take him to work in the first place if you ask me ,you are going to work anyway with or without him .

however you got him a job and he should be well feckin greatfull for that so he shall give you the lift for free plus he shall play your popular tunes in the car at least for a while Laughing

but if he doesnot appreciate all that , remind him that he would not have a job and he would be sleeping in the streets without your help etc ,i am sure you will come to the terms of some agreement in the end Very Happy

Yes, why don’t I just paint the car like a taxi but waive all fares? Its only money after all. Where do I get my free ride from?

The "It was going there anyway" argument doesn't seem to cut much ice with a nice BR man and his mobile ticket machine...

As I said, he's a nice guy and a good mate, but he's a bit self centred it has to be said

Well, I say just ask him...say "ah so now you have a car, I can have a lift into work everyday..ive been looking fwd to this moment!...dont worry ill give you a tenner just like you did for me!"

then see what he says....he has no arguement surely.
