What controls the tick-over on my 1996 R19 16v?

It normally sits at just under or around the 1000 rpm mark, but after my right foot has been to the floor it ticks-over at about 1500 or above. This problem sometimes sorts itself, but most of the time it will stay like this until the engine is stopped and the car is started again.

From what I can see the accelerator cable and mechanisn seems to be returning corectly and the car still accelerates when the pedel is depressed. So, I am guessing it may be electronic, but am unsure as to which bit controls the tick-over. I have another 16v, so it may just be a case of swapping a part.

Any help, much appreciated, thanks

96!

ICV sticking by the sound of it, a good clean would do it no harm

Cheers, I will look in my haynes manual tonight and see which bit is the ICV and do as you suggest.

And yes, registered in 1996, I was surprised when I bought it a year ago, because I thought they stopped making the phase two in 1995.

theres an N reg R19 16v hatch in my town.

Shame its been sitting there for about a year with a flat tyre, looks in relatively good nick, and the alloys look good condition aswell (standard Ph2's)
