GEARBOX OR CLUTCH?
Each time I came into the pits after a few laps (20 miles approx), it was really difficult to select any gear and impossible to select reverse without a horrible graunching of gears. I was heel and toeing out on the track so the gears selected with no problem. It was only when the pace was brought back down to normal speeds that the gear selction problem started. The clutch is quite heavy but doesn't slip at all.
Does this sound like clutch or gearbox? I'm going to replace the gearbox oil to see if this makes a difference and am I right in saying I should only use Renault fluid?

TYRES?
I'm going to replace the front tyres. Any recommendations? I'm considering Toyo?

SUSPENSION?
If I come to a stop and select reverse as I move backwards there is a 'clunk' from NSF suspension. It only occurs when moving backwards. Any ideas? Replace all bushes?
I'm also looking at replacing the standard suspension. Any recommendations? I'm considering K-Tec Ultimate Coil overs?

Thanks in advance people.

Just in case any of you are interested, the car performed fantastically on the day and I can honestly say that no one had more fun than me. I did a tank of fuel and averaged 15mpg. If you haven't done a trackday before, get yourself booked on one - you'll have a fantastic time. I'm now hooked!

use any 80w or atf oil.

cable might be stretching, I assume its fine when it cools down?

My chamade is the same, any speed above 100mph maintained for more than a few miles gets 1st and revers impossible to select cleanly

can you get synthetic gearbox oil, and if so, would it be better?

You're right - when the engine is cold, it's fine. Is there a remedy?

The only other small problem was a brake fluid leak just below the resevoir. Just need to change a hose. Apart from that 100% reliable!!

Tyres

Toyo T1r's, cheap and very good, try www.mytyres.co.uk

Supension

if you want an extremely capable machine keep it standard in all honesty. the clonk could be a few things, is it a single clunk? coudl even be pads loose int he caliper.

Are all the heatshields still on the car? Theres the upper one then the lower one which sits relatively close to the manifold, if thats gone then this is the most likely problem and it cooks the brake fluid. But the cables tend to stretch etc anyway.

Cooling system, this will be full of all sorts of shite, you need to get that sorted out. New rad is better than tryign to flush a 12 year old coked up one. Also the block WILL be silted up, you should get this sorted to prevent problems it will also give more power.

Not too sure how this reply thing works by the way!

I bought the car as a standard 3 door Phase II with an unknown stainless exhaust and unknown induction kit. I've since added a cold air feed, Brembo grooved discs and Greenstuff pads, a new radiator with new top and bottom hoses. I haven't got the bottle to strip it out just in case I sell it!! Probably brave enough to remove the seats for trackdays though.

if you are going to replace the suspension talk to Leda first!!!!!! I'm amazed at how many times I have to keep saying this, I doubt if they will be any more expensive than ktec and they will build them to the spec you require i.e. you specify what you want in the way of damping and adjustablity if you don't know they will advise as they supply a lot of suspension to all types of championships. also if you are doing a lot of track work and you are changing the bushes go for poly ones.

good luck mate on here you will get a lot of sensible advise Very Happy Wink

do not get poly bushes ever.

i have seen them machine through to many subframes due to shite design i won;t ever do any suspension work on any car with them unless tis to fit stock gear as all to often theres a phone call a while later, mny wishbone just gave way etc.

Either standard or rose joint it.
