 R19 OIL PRESSURE

My R19 1.4(EJ6 engine) has an oil pressure warning light switch.Is it an oil pressure sensor too?The needle only rises when you turn the key before the starting.When the engine is running the the needle is not working?Is that normal?

yes thats fine, its an oil level gauge.

turns off once engine is started.

Τhank you my friend.I have another question.Many times the needle does not rise at all before starting.What is malfunctioning?The sensor or the instrument in the panel?In this case when i move the key anticlockwise to pull out the key the needle tries to move but it doesn`t rise.

the oil pressure sensor gets clogged sometimes
no big deal though mate ,as long as you check your oil level regularly and have not got major leaks ,you are fine

is the most suitable type of oil for this engine?May it gets clogged from the oil i use (ELF 20W50)

it might be the oil you use or something else in the oil ways ,the sensor does the reading through a little hole so if something is gone in there you might have problems with the reading .

but as i said earlier ,this is nothing to be bothered with ,dont make a fuss about it
but if you are so fussy beyond help ,get the sensor out when you change your oil next time and use a engine oil flush agent to clear most of the crap in the engine . clean the sensor and put it back in

Τhanks for your help.I don`t know if it is important but i`ve forgotten to say that the engine is hot almost always when the needle does not rise.On the contrary when the engine is cold the needle rises always.

schakal what are you talking about? Apart from a load of crap.

Its probably not working when hot as its a fine wire thats used for the oil level so when hot it goes open circuit.

or perhaps if you mean hot as you just been switched off, you are not giving the oil a chance to settlle in the sump to give maximum reading??

No the needle does not rise at all even you have switched off the engine 30 minutes before.The engine must be completelely cold so the needle rises.
