R19 PH2 16v (for january)

Seems a silly question, but will anyone have a ph2 16v 19 for sale around the end of January?

Really after one and there seem to be very little about.

Will have a budget of about Â£750-800

Needs to be drivable and taxed and tested (a must)

If you've got between now and Jan I recon you could pick up a nice example on eBay well under Â£500.

Paul M has a chammy on eBay atm taxed and tested, new cambelt gearbox is making a noise was on about Â£50 last time I looked, could have ended by now - last time it was on it ended at Â£200 no reserve / no bidders.

true Neal. Docs ph2 looked quite nice, they look much better without centre caps the ph2's, makes em look meaner.

I must admit I like the ph1 after seeing one near a friends house (3 door hatch, white), but it's harder to get hold of a fairly good one. I know yours is good Chris, but it's in Scotland, which is a bit far to go for me. Wink

Ideally it would be Neal's, but I have to wait till January as I am not paying Â£2300+ for insurance when I could wait till January and get it for Â£1172, not ideal, but still a saving of Â£1100!!! (years worth of driving).

I don't see the point in keeping the 1.4, though it's very good condition when I will be paying Â£800 TPFT, when I could have the better car (16v).

I seem to be doing alot more motorway driving and the 1.4 really is'nt great for it and the valver would seem a better car for that and safer (better brakes/sus etc).

Those are the things I have to consider when getting one. Talking to Neal they seem to be rather unreliable, but everyone has to start learning about how to fix the issues somewhere.

they are only unreliable when they are neglected like anything else!

Mine I can trust to take me anywhere really. even the blue one with its dodgy headgasket.

The 2 cars have been stripped right down and sorted properly.

new brake fluid throughout and so on.

That makes it sound like I said they are inherently unreliable, which they are not (necessarily). Itâ€™s just that the vast majority have been used abused and neglected. Thatâ€™s why they break. Also the fact that they are all getting on a bit now anyway.

Well I don't neglect my car. It's allways clean, serviced every 6k (sounds stupid, but I do it so costs me slightly less Laughing

) and I never drive it hard. I can't see the point of twating a car everywhere, there is no need. Every now and again, yes, but not 24/7.

If I were to look after the 16v in the same way then I am sure it would be a great car.

The reason for saving slightly more than I need/intend to spend is so that if the car has and issues (mechanical/body) then they can be sorted out quickly so I am not left with a non-runner. I am going to leave it standard. I've done the tarting up thing with the 1.4.

If there is nothing wrong with it then, like Neal said - "You never know, it might be fine, but in 500 miles, who knows." So it's that little bit extra to fix any problems straight away. Wink

yeah but what does you looking after it have to do with it?

Pay 800 quid for a car thats gonna need another 800 quid on repiars cos its been raped its whole life.

Like docs, he paid for his, dear, then its done nothign but let him down, it was a supposed good one, every core plug on the blocks corroded.

Get one of mine and it has all the issues sorted, sure you need to go to scotland whoppee woo, its not far. And I will do you a good price and the car will drive you home, then take you out the next day. You won;t be sitting by the road side waitign recovery.

I have bought plenty from england. Your as bad as roger red hat. WHats the point of a car if you don't use it?

Anyway point I'm making is pay 800 quid for a car that appears nice then the cambelt or something breaks on the way home so then you either scrap it or spend mega bucks sorting it.

Or fly up to scotland get one of mine drive it back south and it won't break down.
