Random though that just occured to me:

The battery in the 16v often goes flat for mysterious reasons. Im guessing that everytime this happens, the ECU gets reset? So, as it has to relearn the singnals its getting, so to speak; what affect does this have on the mpg and the running of the car Obviously, it will lower it and make it run a bit rough, just wondering if it was a lot, and how long it takes to relearn.

Cheers

if you read the tech articles you will discover why it goes flat.

Sort the earthing and it will be fine unless theres a fault elsewhere.

if the cars sensors etc are not faulty and the engine is in good health then it shoudl drive tip top from the go.

but rarely this is the case so it may need to re-learn. It really doesn't take that long, well it does depending on the driving you do.

Changes in altitude also affect things. As the car has no seperate barometric pressure sensor the air pressure when you start the car is referenced until the next start up.

As Wales is i would imagine quite hilly then this will affect things.
