I have just pin pointed the rattle when going over bumpy roads to be due to the non static half of the (front) brake calibre rattling about. Having looked at it I think it’s nothing to be worried about.

Is this the case, or is a lump of it going to fly off and lock the wheel up at 60?

there is no 'static half' of the caliper, the whole thing is one piece and moves in and out on sliders. If that's the movement youre talking about, thats perfectly normal, and wouldnt be making any rattling noises unless something was very wrong.

Got any pictures of what you mean?

I havn't looked at it closely but I got the impression that there was one piece of the caliper bolted to the hub (static) and another piece that moved on sliders when the piston was pressurised (non static).

Is that right?

Anyway... it's the piece that moves on the sliders.

oh right, yeah thats correct. The static bit is usually called the carrier though.

Anyway, its meant to move, but from what youre saying, it sounds like its very sloppy?

Yeah the right one started to rattle about 6mths ago and now the left one is at it too.
The bolts that secure the carrier to the hub are tight as are the two that are in the caliper itself.

Both calipers can be rattled about with about 3 or 4 mm of play.

I have some 1.8 laguna ones, I wonder if they will fit...
