Its called humour. And was in fact ironic, but maybe you didnt understand. On the Williams noisy tappets are not a bad thing. They are just noisy. If they go when the engine is warm, they are no more than an annoyance. Hence although it is a rediculous suggestion to use the volume control of the radio to turn off the tappets, it was in fact ironic, as it will indeed work, because you wont be able to hear them.

See im clever like that. Wink

you are wasting time & space and thats called taking the piss not humour,
clever ?? hmmm.i wouldnot say that after messing with the mods on a website

Well done

ladies stop it, your worse than a sewing circle when you get going.

Firstly, the article will be done on the energy and old c type engines, these are adjustable.

The 16V's and williams and so on are hydraulic tappets which cannopt be adjusted, if they are noisy then they need cleaned out, which means removing the cams.

The 8 valve 1.7's 1.8's and 2 litres. These little chaps can be adjusted. You need to use shims to do it.

Now the main problem is if you don't have a suitable tool to compress the valves with the cam still in place you have to remove the cam to change the gaps.

So basically no tool theres no point in even trying to adjust them.

But tbh unless the oil changes etc have been neglected the tappets rarely need doing on these so I'd look elsewhere to see if I coudl find a source of dodgy noises thats not the teppets. When you come over red i'll give you my opinion of it.
