Seeing as we're in the mood for polls, I was wanting everyone's opinion on this. Might stop every1 from being bored......might not! Mate at work is always bangin on about how his new '04 registered corsa 1.8 SRi 5dr hatch is soooooo much quicker than my "old M reg shed", otherwise known as a 1994 M reg R19 16v 5dr exec. See now he GENUINELY thinks my car is a shed.....like an old knackered car that can't really go anywhere fast, and I really don't think he understands what it is y'know. I can understand a corsa being pretty quick surely, and also it's a lot newer so it would go better? I dunno. The corsa is 123bhp @ 5,600rpm, and has 122lb/ft of torque @ 4,400rpm. It's 0-60mph is meant to be 8 seconds and it is a whopping 31kg lighter than an R19. The R19 is 137bhp @ 6,500rpm and has 119lb/ft of torque @ 4,250rpm, and it's 0-60 is meant to be 7.4 seconds. So what d'ya all reckon? New, slightly less-powerful but lighter corsa.....vs......older more-powerful but slightly heavier R19? A silly rediculous question that nobody could possibly even attempt to answer? Confused

I would lol, but my drive to work is less than a mile and takes about 2 mins. Absolutely nowhere to pass him unless I go further than my house just to prove a point, and then come back home lol. Which.....I did when he had his 1.8 vectra, which he also thought was the fastest thing on the planet Rolling Eyes

Never under estimate the power of the 1916v (said in a Darth Vader voice Laughing ) ... and beside's, even if there was the slightest chance he did get past you (and i mean slightest) he'd be fooked when he came to his 1st corner, as we all know the 1916v handle's like its on rails Wink Razz

Do you know what......I overcooked a corner the other night.....I must have not been concentrating on the road or something (tut tut).....but I literally realised I had to go round this corner AS I got to it, I had NO time to slow down and I could see myself flying off the road & havin a nasty crash..........but I just turned the wheel and it went round the corner. Didn't even slide. It didn't actually make sense that I got round the corner y'know......it really did amaze me. I have recently had 4 new tyres mind, but still, they handle tremendously and I can say that with confidence Very Happy

Funny, thats how i learnt they could handle great aswell Laughing Laughing

I took my mate out in my 1st 1916v, it was a black ph2 hatch, id only had it about a month, cost me £7k, so im all chuffed to bits, doing abit of the showing off ...as you do Laughing my mate is well impressed, driving along a road iv drivin on millions of times, so im bombing along and comes to a bend in the road, thats when i realise that iv been to busy bragging to my mate and im doing 95mph, toooo late to brake so i just point the nose in the direction and hoped, i could feel the blood draining from me ....but she did'nt even flinch, took the bend like she was on rails, the confidence i had in them cars after that was brilliant,

Iv driving alot of sporty cars since then and none even come close (in my opionion) not even my 21t, although the g/f's 2.0ltr 16v megane handles well Cool

Damn right. But why is it such an underated car? I say to the guys at work that it is a legendary car......and they just laugh at me y'know. I have got a magazine article on the release of the 5dr Executive hatch, and part of it says...

"Anyway, the recent arrival of the Executive is a great excuse to go have a good time screeching around in one of the best handling hot hatches there's been to date."

Just SLIGHTLY more legendary than a corsa, mate Rolling Eyes but there's just no tellin him

the R19 16V has always been underestimated, it never got the attention the XR3i's, RST's, Golf GTi's etc got yet the car is way better than all of those, i've had all of the above, i loved my Mk2 Golf GTi, but when i got my first 19 16V, wooooooo, so much better, hence why i am on my 4th one now.

it kicked arse back in the 90's and it still kicks arse and living in the boy racer capitol of Essex i often get the pleasure of blowing away all these nedded up corsa's and civics etc.

I love my R19 i do

I hate Corsas, i just fucking HATE them.

horrid nasty little shopping trollies, but thats fine, granny needs a car to go to tesco in. Its just the idea of people modding them up and pretending that theyre good/fast cars. Especially the old noddy car bubble shaped ones. Nobody would dream of modding up a mk1 Micra, so why oh WHY, a corsa?? Laughable.

I mean, sure the Renault 19 is viewed by most as an old sheddy/ugly french car, and thats fine too, but they cant deny that there's huge potential, which is what the Corsa totally lacks.

Oh just to add, the Nova, although a typical Chav car, can actually have a chunky angular aggressive look to it, but the Corsa... just a shapeless blob...a horrid feminine blob. Nothing wrong with feminine cars...for women, but trying to mod them to look mean is pathetic.

I hope the extent of my Corsa hatred is coming over OK...

It's coming over just fine lol. Another thing.......I think the R19 is a stunning looking car. I pass another 16v on the road and it's like "woooo, I own one of those!!", I think they just look.....lush. The vent isn't too boy racerish or anything, it just suits the car perfectly. I always liked the look of the 1.4RT my parents used to have (car I learned to drive in) and the 16v is.....well just a mucccch better version of that. Beefed up just the right amount. Well done Renault! Very Happy
