right... on the dash end of the speedo cable there's a white block with a wire out of it.. asa far as i can gather, this is for the road speed sensor.. I'd just like to know why its there and what it does for the car, technically, and also, what happens if it doesnt work/werent there... thanks..

If the road speed sensor is not working then the trip computer (assuming you have one) will not return stuff like average speed, average mpg etc
Also it can affect idle, for instance pulling up to a junction and the car will stall.

it tells the ECU that the car is infact moving.

If its not there then stalling, higher fuel usage and slightly less performance are all side effects of its input not being there.

got no trip comp Sad

so thats the symptoms of non-working RSS sorted.. what i fail to understand is, why the ECU would need to know if the car is moving or not ? (like, what the "scientific" explanation of the need for this signal is, i if you get my drift)

my car does not have any of those symptoms, btw (knock on wood)..

Funny the Hi Idle issue only seems to affect certain ECU,s.

Maybe its a European car thing as Clios and 19,s F3p,s seem to effected by it.

Maybe its just a certain series of ECU,s that are effected.

Is the screw not there (empty hole) or not even a place on the TB for it?

well it is there then isn't it.

it affects different cars to different degrees, sometimes the cars will act normally then other times idle high.
