i used a large spanner(or any large bar) between the inlet manifold and one of the breather pipe inlets.

how many bolts have you taken out?

If its 16 then just give it a clout, theres nothing else holding it

if you take the cambelt off and whip the cams out, you can service the tappets!

Dont drop any crap in there while the cover is off! Razz

I can't get the hatches rocker cover off, nearly a year I have been giving it the occasinal go.

Thats what happens when retards use sealant to stick it on.

Why exactly are you taking it off anyway?

You mention "cleaning the gasket", which suggests youre just going to use the same one. In which case, why take it off at all?

i am taking it because i have never seen whats under it apart from pictures ,secondly i want to give it a good clean as it looks well manky

it also looks like i will have better access to the plug wells and the area around them to get rid of all that black crappy oil all over the place .
thats it really .

but taking the cambelt out is a problem cause i do not know how to put it back ,if i did i would get those tappets out and give them a service as explained on chris h s article

I used a piece of wood against the rocker cover en hit it with a hammer (not to hard) and then i could just lift it and change te gasket. But if your opening i would really change the gasket especially as you are saying the plug wells are full of oily residue.
And like neal said when you've got it of and want to clean the plug wells be carefull not to drop any shit in there. I found it easier to clean the wells with the cover on and using kitchen paper and a alu stick.

Good luck mate
