my 93 l plate clio rsi is having serious problems idleing when sitting at lights and splutters like its on kangaroo petrol and has started to make like a backfire noise coming from the engine then it bursts in to life only seems to happen in damp or rainy conditions obviously the rain is affecting it somehow i think water is getting picked up from fan belt and affecting it somehow

It's an RSi

a) - it doesn't have a bonnet vent (assuming it's standard)

b) - it doesn't have plug wells

I know this is not a terribly helpful post considering I'm not actually adding anything but there you go.

I know what car it is and it doesn't have to have a bonnet vent for moisture to get around the engine bay.

If it doesn't have plug wells, what is the area called where you take the HT lead out of to exspose the head of the spark plug? (genuine question)

ok ok chill!

on the RSi engine the plugs are not recessed into the head iirc, but i could be wrong on that.

I've just checked my Rsi. the plugs are recessed into the head by about 5mm. However the wells are protected from the wet by a plastic housing (one per two plugs) with rubber gasket adjoining the head. The plug lead has a further concertina like rubber ring around it which fits into the housing. Maybe one or both of these ring/gaskets are leaking, allowing water into the well?

And now, Lee,anybody, maybe you can help me - Where the F*** is the starter motor on a Clio 1.8 Rsi, I've got it up on stands at the moment and still can't see the effing thing!
