I got my valver back on the road on Friday at last I drove her tidy until it was warmed up. Then I gave her a good boot on the way to town as I pulled up to the lights there were lots of white smoke coming out of the bonnet also started coming out of the exhast as I pulled of from the lights I was f*****g tamping, great the headgasket has gone pop.

I have manage to get a new head set for £56 with the headbolts might as well change the oil so I got some fresh oil and filter and new coolant all came to £89 how is that for a bargain.

I have also found that some of the headbolts were not very tight and bolt number 5 was on its way out no wonder the headgasket went the muppet who had the car before me boshed it what a t**t

I took a picture of the starter motor is the heatsheld suppos to look like this or something is missing?

77 03 027 290 STUD M10*150*76 5.08 ---3 x 1

is the manifold stud. Good luck getting the old one out. There's still a bit there for you to grab onto, you've got that on your side at least.

exhaust man studs will come out easy.

Best way is to hacksaw as much of the lower flange off as possible then use plenty of oil and moles

Like I did yesterday, I removed a good stud from one manifold using just heat and mole grips but I had to grind away loads of the flange and use a blowtorch before the stud would come out of the manifold I wanted to put it in.

oil, blowtorch it to and rap it with a hammer

[img:567:425:3c26051c18]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/exh%20man%20stud%20removal%2002.jpg[/img:3c26051c18]

hacksaw

[img:567:425:3c26051c18]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/exh%20man%20stud%20removal%2003.jpg[/img:3c26051c18]

unscrew with ease

[img:567:425:3c26051c18]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/exh%20man%20stud%20removal%2005.jpg[/img:3c26051c18]

the studs only held in by the pressure of the flange acting on the manifold, thats why it tightens. removed the preload and the chances of breakage are reduced.

I have undone many just with a rap from the hammer then the moles but I have broke 1 or 2 so use this method

mate look at the photo, i tried that, wouldnt budge. Tried chiselling it too.

It's only temporary anyway so i can put the 1.8 back in for a bit. Will be adequate for the purpose.
