Hi all

My R19 seems to be really slugish i can't seem to overtake buses and or old gits that go at an anoying speed, the car is flat on pickup and sounds quit noisy like its struggling, this is really starting to bug me i have replaced things like dist cap & rotor arm plus all ht leads and plugs, if anyone can give me any idea on whats going on i would be very greatful.

thanks

unbolt the front flange of the cat, pull it down if it all falls out then its ferked.

Another way is unbolt the front flange and start the car then rev it. If its blocked then it will rev a lot faster and easier than it would have done.

Its noisy buit not that loud. A Saab 9k with a blown downpipes much louder.

I'll do a tappets article soon. But for the performance to be way down the tappets would have to be miles out or the cam lobes very worn.

With the engine runing stick your hand behind the exhaust, you should feel strong flow of air, if its a pathetic wheeze then the cats blocked or you have a leak.

hi thanks for reply

there seems to be alot air coming out of the back end so i thing the cat is ok, one other thing i forgot to tell you is that the head has only just been rebuilt and had new stem seals with all the valves re seated, since then the car has done around 1400 miles but is still slugish, i have set all the valve clearances and mad sure i used the right feelers (inlet 0.10mm and oulet 0.25mm) could this prob be down to a injector or feul pump.

iv just got hold of a daewoo nexia and it seems to be a hell of alot more faster than the r 19, have you ever worked on a daewoo before Question

daewoo uses vauxhall gear. Nexia is a mk2 astra under license, same engines.

Anyway compresion test is a good start but if theres strong exhaust pulses the compresion should be ok.

Are you sure nothign siezed or siezing up. Bearing, CV etc, is the handbrake releasing fully. The car with the handbrake off shoudl be easy to push.

its hard to guess over the net!
