Right.....I'll be taking a vid tomorrow of my TD cold starting. The smoke it throws out it amazing and smells nice too! I remember Chris saying it's some sort of pre heat problem but not too sure where to look, being a complete nonce when it comes to troubleshooting anf fixing my car Smile . Once the car is warm in runs sweet as a nut. But I'm not the most popular man in the round here when a plume of smog from my exhaust goes down the street every morning. Any ideas?

As I say I'll put a vid up tomorrow showing it all.

Cheers
Iain

could just be a dodgy warm up capsule.

how long does it take for the revs to drop to a normal idle speed?

Well if I don't start it without my foot on the accelerator it'll stall out. I have to rev the hell out of it to clear the smoke then it'll drop to normal idle. If I rev it again it'll stutter at around 1500rpm but at higher rev's it'll be fine.

have you given it a good thrash lately? A decent run?

Other than that cold start capsule.

Yeah thrash the pants off it once a month down the A41 so must be that. Are they pricey/difficult to fit?

dunno mate, not hard to fit couldn't tell you how much it costs!

Is the coolant clean/ if not flush it thoroughly, might help it respond a bit better.

Is the air filter clean? What about the intercooler?

Coolant's just had a change, the air filters about 6 months old but will give it a scrub up. Haven't check the intercooler will have a peek and report tomorrow.

Right...Here's a vid
Video
It's about 5 meg. I had to resize it as it was 61MB!
If you listen, it takes 3 attempts to start. After that you can hear it stutter at around the 1500rpm mark. There was some smoke but the camera didn't really pick it up.

There appears to be a power problem with this, i'm guessing this is the warm up capsule??

The air filter is fine:

I still need to check the intercooler. Is this it?

Fianally here's a pic of the engine bay:

There's power to the warm up capsule but it ain't doing nowt on a cold start. Would this be the only problem or would there be something else wrong as well?

Cheers
