Pulled out of my drive this morning to hear a loud squeaking coming from the drivers side wheel arch when the car was moving.
It sounded just like the tyre (or some other rubber) rubbing on something so i stopped, had a good look around but couldnt see any evidence of rubbing.
Got back in the car and carried on a few hundred more metres when the sound then turned into a grinding noise.
Hasn't gone away, and theres nothing visually wrong.

Any chance a driveshaft / CV joint could go like this??

Cheers!

could be a bearing, CV joint or a snapped spring. Might even be the arch liner rubbing on the tyre/shaft if you have been messing around with it lately ands not clipped it back in right.

Jacked the car up and had a good look at it this morning

Appears to be the wheel bearing

Have never known a bearing to go instantly though, neither does it change intensity when cornering Confused

Because it started off as a squeaking it leads me to think the bearing had run dry of grease then over the short distance it heated up and warped slightly.

Does this sound like a possibility?

depends on the hub spacing, if they are the same then yes it will.

The 19's and clios are interchangable btw

After looking at the hub and bearing yesterday afternoon it appears to be a lot worse than just the wheel bearing.

Like i thought, the bearing had run dry and warped, but had also seized.
That squeaking sound was the bearing (including outer casing) starting to rotate in the hub housing, followed by the grinding sound as it started to wear away and destroy my hub.

Bugger! Sad

I have a few carriers but the postage would be mega expensive. The scrappies should sell you one for a tenner or so

Is my tracking going to be all to sh*t if i replace the hub?

This better not turn into a big job.
I can see it now, rounded nuts, stripped threads, stuck bolts, split bushes, broken ball joints, split CV gaiter and some seriously grazed knuckles.

And when it does all go wrong, all i have to turn to is a Haynes manual lol
Doesnt really fill me full of confidence lol

Should be a fairly simple job though.

Shouldn't it?????

easy job.

Tracking won't need seen to unless your not re-using the existing track rod end.
