and i dont know which one :(

cars a Clio 94' 1.4RT

Basically it has started to squeak quite badly after it has been driven hard, if i rev it a bit, then squeak will go, then come back 5-10 mins later. Same if i turn it off, on start up, it will squeak badly and needs a rev to go away... Auxy Belt or the PAS belt?

its really annoying as i cant see exessive wear in either belts, or exessive movement, which is it likely to be?

thanks, sam! 8)

normaly the belt that goes to the alternator mate, could be worn but try tightening it up a bit and that should sort the problem.

No, he's talking rubbish!

Just have a tug on both the PAS belt and the alternator belt and whack a bit more tension on whichever is a bit slack.

Yes, the alt belt could still squeak even though it has 'teeth' - they dont engage with teeth on either pulley, they are just there so the belt can bend as it's quite a deep V shape.

i see neal, thanks alot for that, will get a good look at it later... it doesnt seem to have any wear on it or dust etc... so is it just a case of tightening up both of the belts and it should be sorted?

thanks everyone! :D

It's high tech, the alt tensioning method on the Energy eh! Laughing

The PS has a better setup, a proper threaded adjuster thing. Slack off the holding bolts and wind on a bit more tension. Should be quite self explanatory when you look at it.

Hah, hardly. You've got me confused with Chris H

I just had an energy apart the other weekend, replaced both these belts amongst other things.

I took the engine out as I was doing the clutch, waterpump, cambelt etc. and jetwashing the bay at the same time.

But I imagine the alt belt is not that hard from under the car.

PS belt is a piece of piss.

ps belt like neal said is easy, you will probably have to slacked the lower bolt on the ps pump thing with a 16mm spanner so it will move.

Alt needs the lower bolt cracked off via the wheel arch and then loosen the 13mm nut on the top bolt, then undo the bolt a touch so the alts free to move, use a breaker bar or jack handle etc to move the alt body away from the engine then nip up the top bolt, then tighten the nut and the lower bolt.

You can get away on both without loosening the lower pivot blots but it makes things harder and the pressed tin ps pump will just fold in if you put a lot of pressure on it.

or if your near neal he'll do it for a modest fee.
