theres a gap between the steering wheel hub and the column shrouds on my car (indicators do not auto cancel). I reckon the rack has been changed in the past, do i just smack the end of the column with a hammer to knock it back in?

yes that will do it.

But you could always move the indicator closer to the wheel, take the shroud off loosen the calmp and slide it up a bit. This moves the whole shroud btw so if its gonna leave a gap then hammer it back down.

Proper way is to loosen the nut on the pinch bolt at the rack let it sit where it should them it should all be sorted.

But a thump with a hammer never hurt anyone, erm well it did but you get my meaning.
