my r19 seems to make a small screeching noise when i change from 1st to 2nd, at first i thought it may by time to chane the cluch but others have had a drive in the car and say there is plenty of life left in the cluch, iv tried the the test of going up a hill in 4th and seeing if the revs go up but nothing it just stalls, so anyone got any ideas on what i could do next

engine feels quite rough aswell

cheers.

Is there plenty of gear oil? The screw plug on the front of the gearbox acts as a leveller - when you open it you should see a little oil trickle out. If not try giving it a top up with some extreme pressure ('ep') gear oil.

I had this not so long ago - the symptoms I got was a whining when booted in 1st gear.

hi there thanks for reply, i was thinking of changing the gear oil but im unsure which oil to get, the thing is that i dont really get any wining noise just a screech and iv tried reseting the ajuster on the pedal but when i reset it i get about 7 or 8 small clicks and thats it, some people have sugested things like th pressure plate and thrust baring.

hey by the way nice car mate hope all the mods go well i cant wait to see some pics posted

might be a knackered 5th gear. 5th is the 1st to suffer if the oils low. Its only splash lubed and fed by a plastic drip channel.

Reps lagunas are famous for this and 5th gear getting loose, the nut backs out.

check the oil level. If its low top it up. the oil should dribble out of the hole when the levels right.

what happens if you fill it more than you are supposed to,like lets say the car is parked facing sligthly up hill and you filled it untill the oil dribbles out ?

Extra lubrication shouldn't do that much harm I would've thought.

agreed ben Wink

the thing is i want to change the gearbox oil as soon as i can be bothered .but my drive is slightly uphill (about 10-15 degrees) and thought i might park the car facing up ,that way i can flush the system more efficently as well as filling it up again .

apparently Comma 85W90 is a cheap and good one (approved by chris h) ,i could not find it in the motor factors so i have been to comma"s website but couldnot find this specific oil there either.

but as he said ,any ep80 oil should be fine

Over fill it then more chance of leaks etc.

I use in my cars comma auotmatic gearbox oil, much better and its synthetic.

Any EP80/90 is fine though.

Nah wouldnae bother with that, use either autoc box oil or just stick with normal EP80/90

Also don't get the 1 litre size buy the 5 litre size. Its cheaper.
