the chap with the 323 is gonna try to do the helicoil this weekend so i can hear it running.

I wouldnt touch a car that i knew had been helicoiled by some bodger with the head on. Unless i was buying it with a view to putting another engine in it anyway.

But thats just me.

well if u knew he was a bodger fair enough...but if he was a like minded diy mechanic like yourself, what then?

im really just gettin at nothing wrong with doin a helicoil yourself...its not a professional garage job only thing.

as i have already stated, the only person i trust to do something right is myself.

Lets just say ive been 'conditioned' to be that way.

Also, doing it with the head on is a bodge IMO, simple.

hey will, i would stick with the 19 mate, i dont like the sound of that mazda, why not save a few quid and get an r19 RSI or 16V, after that you would not want to go back to the diesel or the mazda. Wink

hey that frosties cam cover gaskets just fine thank you very much! lol

if its a performance car, then its a frosties box with tine foil as fire rings for the headgasket.

If its a low comp effort then its a TV box with ice cream and tinfoil.

I'm dead clever me.

the guy who owns it is an engineer and comes across as being a competent one at that. said he was going to coat the die with grease so any metal shards will stick to that instead of going into the cylinder.

the 323 won't be going on the road right away anyway. will change the servicable parts and probably the belts and headgasket so i can get nay shit out of the cylinder when i change the gasket [if any fell in]

if it fell in then is ran the damage is done, pulling the head off to do the gasket however much later will not do anything
