supra vs 19 16v

just got insurance quotes for a 96' 3 litre twin turbo,between 900-1100.i was planning on doing a full engine rebuild+ respray on the valver over this year but now its got me thinking,also tried quotes for a mitsibushi gto twin turbo also around the same price.
so its build a nice reliable 19 16v or buy a fast supra/3000 which could be costly to run.opinions please!

depends if you want a decent nippy-ish understated practical car, or a fast as fook, impractical car that makes you look like a posing tosser.

wel thing is im only 21,so the quotes i got were a lot cheaper than i expected,and there group 20 also got offered a cosworth a few months back and the insurance was over 2 grand.which was why i was asking opinions so it isnt really a load of "bollocks"

I like supra's, skooby's, evo's. etc. but there a bit too expensive to keep on the road for me.
I would keep the 19 though till you've got a few more years driving under your belt and the insurance is a lot lower.

the 3000 gto got quite a bad wright up,and its supposed to be hard to find a decent uk vesion supra while i was looking at various sites there,so you might be right Crying or Very sad

dunno bout the intergra,fancy something with a turbo next and i was thinking my works only half mile from me and i only drive about locally so petrol wont be a problem

Good start, thats about the only way an average person could afford to run one.

I think that to choose a car, the first place to start is running costs. If you keep the car of any length of time then this is the largest bill.

From there on ask yourself what sort of performance would you be happy with.

Then, what body style are you looking for. For example can you manage with a two seater, or a two/three door with a small back seat, or a two/three door with a full back seat or do you need a four/five door with luggage space and a need to carry lots of passengers.

This should narrow it down a bit.

If you are going for a Supra or Mitsubishi you are probably not married (or even thinking about it), living with parents, and for the main part there is only yourself to look after.

So now is the time to get one of these toys, you won't have another oppurtunity for quite a while.

Supra or Mitsubishi?

Well the Supra is a popular car for tuning, whereas the Mitsubishis forgotten or ruled out, for whatever reasons.
Both are quick machines and will deliver the goods.
I like the look of both, but what I would say is, that I would imagine that Toyota are easier to pay, slightly more popular, which in turn means that there are more in the scrap yards, so easier to get parts for. The tuners use them, so you have more choice on where you get it serviced etc.

The GTO is a jap import which I would aviod, the 3000 GT is the UK version and I would spend the extra money to get one.

You also may need to run these cars on Super Unleaded, which of course is more expensive than ordinary stuff.

The Supra is a simpler machine compared to the Mitsubishi. The Mitsubishi has:

Active Aero spoilers.
4 wheel steer
4 wheel drive
etc.

Which translates to, more to go wrong and more to service etc.

I still really like the 3000 GT, but the Supra would probably be a better buy. Reliability shouldn't be an issue with either car, sa they are both Japanese.

Take a look on some of the Supra/GT forums to see what the common problems are, and if you can get service manuals for them, and work on them yourself etc.

Some people buy cars that other people like, these are posers. Some other people buy cars that they like, these people are enthusiasts.

Modesty goes a long way when you own one these things.

Also if you buy a jap car you probably will never go back to a french one! You have been warned.

ur right about most of that stephen.still living with parents not married or even thinking about it and no weans,so running wont be a problem.cant drive again till november anyway so ive got plenty of time to save up for one,or fix the 19 back up.wot (I mean what really) i should do is save up till the summer and see wot (I mean what really) my plans are and as you said just keep looking on the mitsi/supra forums

checked on elephant for insurance Â£999.60 (for the integra) thats declaring my three points and everything
got me thinking now,wont be until november so id better start saving up

Look at it this way -

An Integra is a hot hatch.

A Supra/3000 GT is bordering on supercar territory.

Different league.

One has a stressed 4 pot N/A, the other a big, powerful, lazy, torquey, turbocharged lump, with lots of tuning potential.
