I know exactly where you're coming from. I had to bite the bullet and fork out £200 for the RS box but it's only done 40k so it should be good for a little while till I can get the other JC5 rebuilt and ready. I'm also seriously considering butchering various boxes for ratios but after seeing the insides of one over the weekend I thought "best put the bell housing back and leave it to someone else for now Mick" Razz

Yeah but why was it empty? I'm always worried about buying things like that on eGay incase they're bolloxed. Any idea what it went for?

Yeah but on what are you basing that claim Chris?

A 1.4 JB1 might take all the stick a 1.4 can throw at it but how many have been fitted to a 1.8/2.0 16v etc?

Well i'm about to find out one way or another so i'll let you know how it pans out. Just found a guy in Nottingham who works 24hrs and claims to be able to rebuild a Renault box in 4 hours... lets put him to the test Razz

plenty neal. I have driven a good amount of 16V's with jb1's on them.

Also seen plenty of jb1 cars do burnout after burnout even with 18's and yet to see one pop a clip.

JB3's pop doing the same stuff or at even lesser stress.

if you told me to pick a box to take abuse I would use a JB1.

Why they don't pop I don't know as they use the same clip but so does the JC5's

Are there any differences between the JB1, JB3 and JC5 casings that you know of Chris? It's interesting to know why the JB3 suffers so much.

JC5 has bigger bearings so the bearign holes are bigger.

The casings are slightly different from the jc5 and jb3 as the clio mounts are not happy on the jc5's some fit some don't
