Hi

I had a 16 valaver,

as you may well know it hit the graves due to renault, Blackburn stuffing it.

I would like to clear it up once and for all so i know that i was either wrong or right.

The 16v kept pressurising in the expansion tank whilst driving.

This caused to caps pressure valve to open up and shower the underside of the bonnet with rusty water.

Renault, flushed to water system several times, ran tests etc.

They still said it wasnt the head.

The system didnt have a pressure lock as i checked this myself everytime.

REASON???

Fire away, i will try to answer every question until we have the cause.

Its doin me noggin in. I had to scrap my dream car at the time at a cost of over £1000 which is what i paid renault to fix the above problem

As far as I know there are two main reasons why the expansion tank would be pressurised:

1) It's overheating, this will be quite obivous.

2) The compression created by the engine is escaping into the waterways.

There may be a cracked head, this can be pressure tested or the gasket is ruptured or the block (short motor?) itself may have a hairline crack.

Other than that I don't know.

head gasket.

Over heating is a simple thing, its caused by not enough of a medium to remove heat (low water and/or air locks), a faulty thermostat (not opening), blocked radiator not allowign sufficient heat transfer despite thermo working ok or exhaust gasses getting in and heating it all up but this will take a long time btw.

Overheatign doesnt in general cause the pressure cap to dump all the coolant due to the presure.

To pressureise the system either combustion gasses getting in (headgasket, cracked head, cracked block, blocked pipe somwhere (doubtfull in this case).

Anyway headgasket is the one I'd go for.

I had a big meeting with the head of Renault northern, who said they had done everything in their power to fix the care.

In Hinesite i should have taken them to court. I lost the car and £1000.

I wonder if there doing the same to other people.

Be warned!!
